As many of you may or may not know, Andrew is my friend, and one of my long time PHs that I have hunted with for many years. If it means anything at all, he has my 100% support, and I will vouch for Andrew any day!

I can also vouch for the Gache-Gache area, and it's Outfitter Corris Ferreira. My wife, my 9 yr old daughter Mercedes, and myself hunted the same area with Andrew and Corris last year, and had a simply fabulous hunt. It is the best hippo area I have ever hunted, in particular if you want to hunt hippo out of the water. Funny thing is, I shot my hippo while I WAS IN THE WATER, and the Hippo was on dry ground! Reversal of roles bewildered HEH HEH........... Buffalo hunting is fantastic as well, we saw buffalo, lot's of them, every day! I have photos of one great buffalo while I was there, bad thing is, I had already shot my two bulls! Just gives me a reason to go back next year and visit with Andrew and Corris, and do it all again!

Earlier this year, one of our own, Mel5141, booked with Andrew, and as I understand it has just finished his hunt and was successful as well. Hopefully he is lurking about and can chime in too.

In the meantime, Andrew asked me to post some photos of the area and some of the game taken.

SOme photos from my hunt last year.

Some others;

These are just a few photos to show you some of the animals that have been taken there.

Larry, I agree, they do in fact look incredible. I am not sure if those were there last year or not? I don't recall?

I am planning on another trip with Andrew for next year there to visit with Corris, maybe we can measure those, if I don't get so excited about buffalo I forget? LOL.......... This is a wonderful area, see buffalo, elephant, crocs and hippo every day.

I just returned this week from hunt in Zimbabwe with these guys.

I will heartily endorse Andrew and Corris, and their Gache-Gache Hunting area operation.

I took Buffalo, Croc, and a Bull Hippo on land.

This was my 8th Zim. trip and I compare this favorably with any of my previous hunts...

Andrew is a Topflight young hunter with DG experience in RSA, Tanzania, Mozambique, and Zim.

We were in game pretty much continously, I looked at over 150 Hippos, before tasking a nice Bull on land after a rather skillful stalk organized by Andrew, after 30 minutes of trophy/sex evaluation at a distance of 45 yards, (We could not close any further on the open beach ,and had 14 sets of eyes focused on us across a stretch of open floodplain.)
On signal, I stepped out from behind Andrew and dropped a fine old Bull with a side brain shot from my .FN .404

Buffalo were plentiful and crocs are too numerous to mention.
My croc came at the conclusion of a really GOOD stalk, Butt Walking and then Belly crawling the last 150 yards, I rolled into the prone position, the Leicas said 97 yards, and at Andrews whisper I put a Barnes TSX into his neck from my old 9.3X62.....

Although I was not Elephant hunting this trip ,we had numerous contacts ,and took some good pictures at 20 yards of a herd of 5 Bulls one afternoon.

Andrew/Michael, I see some photos in Michael's post that I took, please feel free to post any others you have from my hunt if you wish.....

All in all , a GOOD Hunt, go if you can.
Hunt runs smoothly, good serviceable equipment and vehicles, and Corris' lovely wife Hillary and her fine staff provide a proper and comfortable camp.

An added bonus is the quality Tigerfish and Bream fishing at camp, although I must say neither of my PH's showed much in the way of results. I know there are plenty of Tigerfish ,as the local native fisherman filled their boats daily.

Best,
Paul

What was the weather like. I was looking at a Buff hunt up in the Omay for next month, but was told the temperatures run a 100degF and even the dirt is hot, etc. I do not do well with that kind of heat, but sounds like you guys had a good hunt, and may look, quickly, into it, if the weather isn't so hot. Have the $ and ready to go..

You will be all right on weather, September is WAY better than October.... Mild to Warm around Lake Kariba...... We had a 90*F day but most were 80's, you see the guys are in jackets at morning Tea ,but warms up nicely.....
I went in August to escape this 106 + Torture here in West Texas....

I was in the Save last September from 10th to the 29th and it was warm but doable.....

Go and enjoy....This is a game rich environment...

Like I said on the other thread, it pleases me to no end that you not only just endorse Andrew and Corris, but had a good time, and a successful hunt. As I feel very responsible for getting you there, and recommending them to you, then the buck stops with me in the end! Congratulations, and since I have your permission I am going to show you off a bit with some of these photos of you and your animals!!! You did great!

Congratulations again!!!!!!!!!

I concur with Mel, it will be warm, but not unbearable. In fact, probably cool down some at night I would bet. I have been in Zimbabwe, in the Matetsi and Chete in October and even November, sometimes being extremely hot, 110-115 degrees. Was there in November of 2007 and it did not seem so bad, pretty warm days, but not so bad in the evenings. So you can hit or miss sometimes like the weather everywhere I suppose. But September will not be so bad at all.

Another vote for Andrew and Corris. My recent client took Elephant with Andrew and was amazed at the numbers of the DG in the area. Waterfowl numbers were astounding as well. He reported the Buffalo were in very good numbers as well as Hippo & Croc. tu2
