Folks,

I've known Paul Brand for about 10 years. My taxidermist introduced me too him and we talked about doing some work together but he was just starting out then and his business was too small for it to be worth it for either of us to work together. Fast forward to the SCI show in Feb '17 and we talked once again about doing some business. Paul has come a long way, has a truly beautiful big boat and offers some excellent hunting at very fair prices.

Below is what he has on offer:

May 1-25 Black Bear

Our spring Black Bear hunts run on the outer coast of the Kenai peninsula. They are seven days including the first day of travel to the hunting grounds. Depending on timing we will either leave from Homer by airplane or boat. Flights included. We typically hunt the evening in the tidal areas and flats plus do some fishing in the daytime depending on weather. You should see multiple bears each day and what you shoot often will depend on how patient and selective you are. 6'+ to 7'+ square is what you should expect.

2x1 7 days at $6,600

July 15 to Aug 31 fishing sightseeing cruises

These trips typically have six guests on the boat and are six days long. The rates include the charter from Homer to the boat aboard an Otter on floats. The plane drops the guests on the boat for the duration of their trip and then picks them back up on the sixth day sometime mid day and takes them and their fish back to homer where fish can be processed at a rate of $1.25 a pound. On average they will have about a 100 pounds of fish per person sometimes a lot more depending on conditions. We provide all tackle, food and equipment for the whole trip. It is absolutely an amazing adventure. Guests can river fish for silvers and we also do lots of halibut fishing all near shore in shallow water. We encourage them to release the big breeders over 150 pounds if possible. There are also lots of lingcod and rockfish depending on weather if we can get on them. We are able to move around the island of Shuyak and stay in calm waters.

4 days $2,850
6 days $3,900

Sept 1 to October 15 Mountain Goat

These trips all depart Homer and are seven days. We recommend leaving a day or two on the end for a weather buffer just in case we have to leave a day late due to weather. We typically harvest goats between nine and ten inches and the success rate is very high at over ninety percent on mature billies. Although available we discourage hunting black bears at all on these trips as we don’t want to spend time shooting at bears and drive the goats into the cliffs. The weather is a factor so the guys need to be patient but it is a unbelievable mountain goat hunt with all the comforts of home in a prime area! You need a good physical condition for this one.

1x1 7 days $12,900

Oct 22 to November 30

Sitka blacktail deer

These hunts start and end in Kodiak City. The guests need to fly in to Kodiak the day before departure and be ready to fly in the morning with Island Air Service. The charter flight is included in the hunt cost. These hunts are unguided and include sea duck hunting. I will have shotgun shells for sale on the boat. We provide all the services on the boat, transportation to shore plus return each day. Depending on hunting ability the guys usually do very well and everyone loves the trip.

7 days $3,950 unguided
2x1 7 days $5,900 guided

Roosevelt elk can be hunted by special arrangement.

Call me with any questions anytime. A few slots may be open for '17.

See if Paul can describe the goat hunts a bit more please - method (spot from boat and start climb if it looks promising?), typical shooting distance, typical climb to get within shooting distance, etc. PM or post, either is fine.

Thanks,

Already I was beginning to fall into the African way of thinking: That if
you properly respect what you are after, and shoot it cleanly and on
the animal's terrain, if you imprison in your mind all the wonder of the
day from sky to smell to breeze to flowers—then you have not merely
killed an animal. You have lent immortality to a beast you have killed
because you loved him and wanted him forever so that you could always
recapture the day - Robert Ruark
