I misunderstood that this buffalo hunt was priced $9,950 as a 2x1. It actually is $9,950 as 1x1 making it even a better deal.

I've brought this to the top because this is a Heck of deal in a superb area. Prime October dates are open. I would expect to see hundreds of buffalo on this hunt. The new camp is deluxe for the Luangwa with beautiful en suite chalets and a pool.


This AM I talked to the Du Plooys/Muchinga Adventures who have picked up the 760,000 acre Chifunda GMA on the Luangwa river in Zambia. They just returned from building a brand new camp there and having a good look around. They knew the area would be good as there had been intense anti poaching in place all during the closure but they didn't realize what a gem it would be. They reported seeing a herd of 600+ buffalo only 1 km from camp and being able to drive the Cruiser in among them. The herds have never been hunted there as the previous holder of the GMA strictly hunted Dugga Boys only. Cookson's wildebeest are common and they saw bachelor bull herds of 10-20 animals. Cat sign is everywhere and common game such as impala and puku are there in the hundreds. The river is loaded with hippo and croc offering a great opportunity to pick these species up on even a short buffalo hunt. Abie who is John Du Plooy's older brother and an old hand in the safari business said the area reminded him of the Luangwa of many years in the past.

There are a few buffalo left on quota for '15 and with the amount of buff around you might kill a very big one.

i hunted chifunda a few years back. it really is a rich area. camps along the river etc. probably one of my favorite places, and with duploys running the camp it would be first class

That would really only apply if folks are buying giant baskets, 5 foot giraffes, Chief's chairs and stuff like that. All that type of stuff takes extra care in packing and may require separate crates. Du Plooys have their own dip/pack facility and are not passing it off to a taxidermist who will charge similar for all those large items.

Oh that makes sense

The previous operator installed stringent conditions regarding the off take of Lion and Buff as a conservation measure. It would seem that Johnny has landed with his bum in the butter.

You are correct. 760,000 acres and only an off take of two lion per year and no buffalo taken from herds. The hunting will be very good going forward. I think a safari split between Chifunda and Royal Kafue might be a dream safari.

I think there is going to be some cracking trophies coming out of Zambia in the next few years.

Johnny was our first dangerous game PH. We loved his company and he is solely responsible for introducing Joyce to the full experience of hunting thanks to some Doves and Guinea Fowl.

Look where that led.

No , this block was Luanguwa Crocodile Safaris and was operated by P.J Fouche , great hunter and conservationist.
I hunted there a very nice lion and it was a fantastic hunt.
Excellent block , too much encrouchement of people but a fantastic block for lion.

This is a one of the few areas in the Luangwa where plentiful black mained lions actually exist. Plenty buffalo and good quality roan and cooksons wildebeest as well. Great deal, grab it whilst you can!!

I just hope that the new operators take good care of this block as P. j Fouche did.
He was really one of the best in running an hunting area , very strict with good management rules.

I would like to mention, I have mounted several safaris that were hunted with this company and they were as good a trophy prep I've seen. Zero problems that I can remember.

Atcheson Taxidermy that I'm partnered with says exactly the same thing. The personal attention to detail that Laura Du Plooy puts into the dip/pack is worth every penny and you'll get your trophies before January of the following year you hunted.

Charles Butler did a report recently that included Chifunda.

Heym and Mike,

You book at the show or at least sometime in advance to get the dates that work for you with the people you want to hunt with for the specific species you desire. This is always what I recommend. The BUT comes when you have a flexible schedule and cash on hand to take advantage of a great deal like this.

If I had not hunted the Luangwa 3 times I'd be all over this extending to 10 days and taking a hippo, croc and Cookson's as well as the buffalo. That should be really easy to do.
