I did one of these mountain hunts with Fanie Steyn
It was tough and we had to pack bull out on our backs quartered ( couple of miles )
I loved it
Mine was 54” because PH measured it, I didn’t care as it was great hunt and no driving to it involved
Highly recommend this kinda hunt

These are fantastic bulls for sure Bossie. Can you tell us a little bit about how this hunt is conducted? Such as much driving vs walking/hiking, amount of time glassing, ability to be selective, etc. Thanks!

Bill C, when I look at the pictures, each one tells a different story and a different hunt.

Hunting these bulls up in the mountains might sound much easier than it actually is.
95% of the hunt depends hunters physical condition and ability to walk.

a Normal days routine would be to drive to some spots where we know these bulls like to hang out and hide.
We spend some time glassing the hillside for any sign of activity. If a hunter is able to walk and get to the top, we will
take a hike to some higher grounds where we can glass down into the valleys below. Trackers will also spread out and each one takes
a different direction. When any bulls are spotted the tracker will call us in and we make a stalk.

In some cases it's difficult to get ourselves into a position where we have the advantage. These bulls usually have a pattern of traveling and I will send 2 to 4 trackers up to locate or flush them and we wait in ambush. Although it might sound easy, it is easier said than done. Shot opportunity can vary from 50y to 400y and they don't always co-operate.

The hunting part of this is actually the easier part, it's the packing and quartering of the animal that's the challenge.
Although there is plenty of roads on the property most of the areas don't have access besides walking.

Picture number 2 is all you are looking for in a Kudu and the shape is fantastic.

60 plus are few and far between and there are a couple of areas in Botswana that can offer you that opportunity.

Saying that the biggest Kudu I have ever seen was at Munyamadzi whilst on a group hunt and a conservative guess was 64 inch. Another giant was recently photographed in the Lundu concession of north Luangwa.
