If Elephant is your priority, you will hunt hard. It isn't a "gimme" here. You should expect to shoot a legal Bull (33-40 lbs) They get bigger ones, but it is more a matter of luck and effort combined than anything. The late dates are good Elephant dates.

Luke loves to hunt Elephant, but either he or Paddy would be a fine choice.

For what it is worth, you will shoot a Leopard here with just a bit of effort.

The Lion hunting is good too, manes are short and some are thin, but success is good early. It's a good Lion hunt if you are not picky about manes.

I should mention the Eland. Oh my, they shoot some real toads here. A few AR guys have posted some monster Eland pics from here.

All you freeloaders make me sick! I have a good option that will result in me paying my fair share.

There are 26 animals available and I only want one of them, the lion. I will be willing to pay my fair share of 3% of the daily rates and the full trophy fee for the lion.

We've seen the Perfect Client thread, it's time to start a thread on "the perfect gets invited" hunter. I would like to add that I will take all photos of the hunt at no cost to anyone but myself and I even have a digital camera, I used to be a bartender and I tend to attract all mosquitos and tsetse on me, leaving others unscathed.

As far as I'm concerned there is no guarantee when hunting (unless you go way south) but by choosing the right period for a Selous hunt, you would stand a very good chance on both Lion and Elephant with 100% on Leopard. This 18 day deal comes with a full bag as per 21 day permit.
What more could you ask for?

Lb404,

Sorry, I missed this post. He's correct, a guy in good shape who is committed to walking during good dates should be successful.

Just to be clear, this guy knows what he is talking about as far as Luke's blocks, better than just about anyone on AR that I know of. Wink

Well, he got all those for me in only 16 days. And I don't think we walked all that far.

If you do this hunt, forget about Elephant. If you see one while driving, get out and kill it. Concentrate on Lion, go during good Lion dates. Your Leopard will not be a problem.

Make it a Lion hunt and you should do well. 80-85% odds on killing a Lion. He won't be a furry bastard, but he will be a good cat.

I wouldn't write off the elephant altogether if the right period is selected, ie. October/November when water is scarce and temps. are close to 104 F - elephants and all other game in general concentrate near permanent sources of water (mainly springs) which also opens better opportunities for lion - leopard is the least of your worries.
All things being equal, if a fresh enough track is picked up in the early morning that elephant can be caught up with in less than 4 hours.
August/September are more "cat months" with elephant as a bonus.
