$1500! That is a bargain! I paid $3500 in 2015 and $100 a day for a "government representative" to tag along. Was cheaper to bring firearms in. Oh well...........

bcap, that's odd; both of my Zim PH's says there is, and that was one and two days ago.
Zim law: "Importation of Bows & Arrows into Zimbabwe
It is legal for hunters to import bows for bowhunting purposes into Zimbabwe and just as with a rifle, a special hunting permit is required at a cost of US$ 1,500."

If I recall, plains game permit (in 2015) was $1500. Dangerous game permit was $3500 and required a government rep to "hunt" with you. That was another $100 a day. ALSO, all dangerous game hunts had to be filmed. This required a photographer which also cost. At the end of the hunt, the film had to be surrendered to the government. I did get a copy though. I was hunting buffalo at the same time the Cecil the lion debacle happened. Like I said, this was in 2015. Hopefully a lot of this has changed for the better..........

Seems like a big fuss. Save is private, normally you don't even need a "ranger".

Well fortunately Russ, my friends/PH's don't break the law. And if the Zim Gov't says you need both, you best have both. Maybe they will change their mind tomorrow and forget about it.

Yeah, gotta agree with L David. Long way away from home to get in trouble over something like that. I did not like paying the fees. Not going to lie. But those were the conditions to hunt legally. Agreed, makes little sense. The "government scout" that MUST accompany you makes even less sense. We walked the first one they assigned us into the ground the first two days. She (yes, it was a woman) left on the third day and we thought we had shed that anchor. They sent a substitute the next day. Rrrrrrr....

Not suggesting anyone "break the law", I know the Zim govt requirements for bow hunts, but I would recommend considering doing the same hunt in RSA where none of this fuss is required and the hunt will cost half the money. And no, I am not offering a hunt either, do your own homework.

I hunted PG, Leopard. Hippo and Ele in Zimbabwe in 2015 (rifle) - we had a game scout with us but no photographer and nothing was filmed..

If there were individual permits for plainsgame and dangerous game I never saw them itemized...
Just daily rate and trophy fees.. Must have been archery only requirements...

Hunt with a bow in RSA - much easier and killing a buff at 20yds with a bow is exciting regardless of the country...
