I have two openings for December 11th-14th 2013 (arrive on the evening of the 10th @ Boston Logan airport) hunt the 11th-14th. Join myself and another fellow AR member as we gun for Atlantic Eiders, 3 species of Scoter (black, surf and white wing) Old Squaw, Mergansers, and Atlantic Brant. Strong chance we will devote a morning to hunting divers and puddle ducks. Canada Geese may be in the mix. Hunt will be with Capt Jack Renfrew (Coastline Guide service). I have hunted with Jack and he is not only a good guide, but a lot of fun to hunt with. Very down to earth and serious about you getting your birds. I will be there to assist with sorting out your trophy birds for travel and picking the best for your mounts. Cost is $350 per day, per person. We will stay at a local hotel (cont'l breakfast included). Jack will take us to local eatery's for lunch and most likely join us for dinner but we can fend for ourselves too. Very easy to fly into Logan with your favorite scatter gun; licenses may be purchased over the internet (recommended) or bought locally. I will advise anyone with questions on recommended guns/chokes/shot size. Deposits will be 50% and forwarded to Coastline Guide service. This should prove to be another great time on the water. You never know Tom. Since the airing of "Mermaids" most of these guys are too scared to get anywhere near the ocean

where does the hunt go out of? Is it south or north of Boston. How are you going to hunt?

We move around depending upon the birds we're after. Might be out of Cape Cod one day, Boston Harbor the next. Different species will be in different areas. My hunts are targeted towards trophy bird collecting but it's still "duck hunting." Some areas we will hunt off the beach (sand) some places out of the boat. Jack's boat is a monster with a 250 hp motor.
Now we have to suffer through the summer...long wait till season opens!

I am intersted in this hunt and have done similar hunts in the past. Do I need to do all 4 days? That is more than I would like to be away. Could not care less to hunt Brants. Real interested in the Eiders, Scoter hunting and especially getting some good old squaw.

Hi Mac, you can hunt the days you wish, 1, 2 or 3. You do not have to stay all 4 days. Brant are targets of opportunity in the morning but sometimes we hunt them in the late morning. As mentioned, we're on a trophy bird hunt, so getting you some prime birds is the point of it all. I have taken super Eiders with Jack, one was a giant, larger than most Captain's had ever taken.

David, count me in for two hunters.....I really want to tackle some Eiders and Brant. Send me a PM and tell me what I need to do to make this happen. this is right up my alley.

Capt Jack filled in at the last min. for us when our guy had to be hospitalized at the last min. Good Guy, worked hard, easy to get along with, hunted out of the Boston Harbor it was different, lots of developement had some good shoots none the less. Jack told us he had other spots but was hunting this area because that is where we were supposed to be with the other guy.

Being from the Maine coast this is the kind of duck hunting I grew up with. If you've never hunted divers you'll love it. They come readily to the tollers/decoys and they are plentiful. Don't freak out the first time you fire into a flock of Old Squaws and they all hit the water. Bring some #2's for those big drake Eiders.

Mark, Yes, I love hunting these birds on the coast. Being from TN I love those sea ducks and all the Boston area, on and off the water!

I have killed all of the available sea ducks with Jack. Eider, common , white wing and surf scoter...some great old squaw not to mention... every diver you can think of. He will put you on the birds.

You can buy your MA small game license and stamp online. You will be asked to fill out the HIP form (free) on migratory birds. I believe the total cost was around $145. I'll keep you advised. Sounds good, this hunt is just a filler for me so just keep me in the loop if anything opens up for that Fri/Sat.

Shouldn't be a problem

For anyone who is interested in going on this trip, I have to back out. I am scheduled to hunt Dec. 13-14th. I have sent my deposit in to cover half of the expense.

$300 will be due upon arrival and I've sent in a $300 deposit.

If anyone is interested in taking my spot on this trip I'd be willing to take $200 for the $300 I paid in a deposit, with $300 being due upon arrive.
