Looking for an Axis hunt for 2 hunters. Neither of us have taken an Axis before. I will be bringing a guy that has not had many opportunities in life and has never been on a guided hunt before. I just want him to go and have a good time and shoot a nice buck. He would give the shirt off his back to anyone and I want him to have a memorable experience. Axis is the animal he wants to hunt the most. Does not have to be in 2018 can be in 2019.

YO Schreiner Ranch adjacent to the YO Headquarters Ranch. Off I10 just west of Mountain Home, TX.

Google it for information.

I hunted there recently and stayed in their new lodge. Nice folks.
We saw lots of huge axis bucks that were less bothered by us than the does.

Unfortunately the YO of old is no longer. I think it was 2015 the headquarters area and about 6000 acres were sold off. No longer part of the Schreiner family.

I hunted the YO back in 2007 and 2008. Took sika, aoudad and axis. Wonderful time. Ranch was down to about 29,000 acres then.

Crshelton, is the YO Schreiner some of Charlie IV's sons?

There are several good ones here, and some offer free range Axis hunts that are very high success.

That’s sad. I watched a show recently (not filmed on the YO) but it was about exotics thriving in Texas when nearly extinct in native lands. The YO was part of that and was once 500,000 acres. The break up was due to heirs fighting, much like the King.

Last year I hunted with Rodney at Maui Hunting Safaris in Hawaii. The accommodations and food were good, Rodney knows his stuff and there's lots of good quality bucks on the property that are challenging to hunt. He did a great job of handling the animal after it was downed and I'm glad I went through the effort to have the meat shipped to my butcher shop on the mainland. Its without question the best venison I've ever eaten!!!

If you want a unique environment to hunt in (a tropical island with beautiful views of the Pacific ocean) and maybe wish to enjoy a few days in Maui afterwards, I'd strongly recommend hunting with Rodney.

Guided axis hunt prices in TX run from $1K to $5K depending on who you go with and often the success rates and quality trophy quality are the same. $1K means you handle your own food and accommodations.

Do your research.

Thank you all very much for the recommendations.

Here is a link to my Axis hunts. I hunt multiple properties all free range and 1 place that is a preserve hunt. We do not charge by the inch or have any other hidden fees. What you see is what you get.

If you have not booked a hunt already I have some specials going on a new ranch we just picked up if you hunted before the end of October.

I offer primarily free range hunts and also preserve hunts on 1 million acres across west and southwest Texas for native and exotic game.
