Wouldn't this be a grand adventure???? I just hope that the hunt will be sold to an AR member and he share with us the story of the hunt.

Kwan, I'm not trying to stir anything up, I am just wondering. What are the costs associated with this type of hunt that justifies $20,000 in a life/death "urgent" matter? I am ignorant in regards to hunts in Africa, I just figured that if folks are getting killed, then any potential monetary gains (if there are any) should be withdrawn, and the culling should be priced as low as possible to get this matter over with ASAP. I'm sure I'll get beat up for this one, but I was just wanting to know. What a pity this didn't come up a week ago when I was leaving Pemba Moz. Here I am sitting in Joburg since Saturday waiting for my flight on Friday.

Quote: "Reason- Lioness has snare around her and the male joined up, they have formed a pair and have killed local tribesmen, and are causing major fear and panic in the district, they will kill humans again and needs too be taken out urgently" Here we have a "man eater" situation and the "Director of Agriculture" is standing around waiting for someone to fork out 20G to do a job that should have been done by the game dept. immediately after the first man eating report! Its either BS or plain ridicule !

Knowing what one must pay and spend to run a business in Mozambique and what the Lion can be like leaves me to believe this is not BS. I'm sure if no one signs up soon then the price may be negotiable. That is, if time allows. Does any T/fee get refunded if the Lion aren't taken?

We have had quite a bit of discussion regarding PAC animals in Mozambique, and as far as I can understand it, NO VISITING hunter can shoot one!? If there has been a change in the rules, would someone please tell us what is going on?

The only excuse for not killing the lioness and or the lion immediatly is greed! Shame on you. Elephant Hunter, Double Rifle Shooter Society, NRA Lifetime Member, Ten Safaris, in RSA, Namibia, Zimbabwe

Where I come from any such lion or lioness that causes loss of human life is eliminated post-haste, usually by the game dept. or, in some cases by a PH, requested to do so by the relevant authorities. For someone to play the stalling game and speculate at the expense of a possible further loss of human life is beyond comprehension!

Gentleman, and Ladies The fees are not mine, I would have just shot them as PAC, as Moz PH I can doo that, Tete, Provincial Government notified us of the extra 2 lions on quota !!!! We are liable for the trophy fees if they are shot,Game Department is running short of funds, it seems too me The locals are going too kill them via poison or gintrap if they can, as they usually do in any case. So these are not PAC by Government decree, it is 2 extra lions on quota, with the License fees payable as normal. If you do not want 2 lions for an unvelievable price - Walter Enslin kwansafaris@mweb.co.za DRSS- 500NE Sabatti 450 Rigby 416 Rigby

Kwan, your last line was stated perfectly. TIA the government can change the rules on a whim. and it is a great chance for the game department to get badly needed funds. I do not believe this is the first time we have heard of a hunt like this becoming available not necessarily lions but pac hunts are not uncommon

My only problem with this post is my lack of $20k to give Walter. Hell of a deal for a Lion. I too hope an AR member takes this. Too bad it won't be Wendell.

I am with Saeed. I thought PAC animals were illegal to sell in Moz. I don't need to get arrested over there. Good luck to the buyer.

Some guys would complain if you hit them in the "thumb" with a gold hammer. I guess they are looking for a rfree ride. A lot of us will never be able to hunt a lion because of the cost. I wish I could do it right now.

I believe it's been made clear this is not a PAC hunt, but rather additional quota that's been granted for these two specific "problem" animals. Use enough gun... Shoot 'till it's dead, especially if it bites.

This is what I figured would happen, if your responding to my post, maybe re-read it....I am only trying to understand the pricing structure in an apparant life/death situation. Theres no doubt its a cool hunt at an even cooler cost, if I wasnt tied up finacially right now, I'd likely jump on it. Guys, I have spent the last 15 hours discussing details with Walter and trying to figure out someway, anyway to do this hunt. If I wasn't already committed to leave for Alaska on the 14th for a month, I would be on a plane in the morning to Maputo. This is a dream hunt at a criminal price, Walter is a good man who runs a top notch operation in a truly wild part of old Africa. This hunt is going to be like something out of a book, I hope someone from AR snatches this up, because I sure want to hear the story and see the pics of what I missed.

How can they NOT be PAC if they have been killing people? I am afraid I am not convinced about the legality of this - Kwan, I am not blaming you for this, you are just relaying the information you got.

well Said. I second Brads Comments. Saeed, I think what Walter is saying is simply that the Government has not placed the 2 Lions on a PAC list, but instead on a quota. Ostensibly this means that any PH who shoots them cannot shoot them as PAC as they will be liable for the full trophy fees.Clearly the Government has decided that it is better to earn something from the animals through the system. The query re the client being allowed to shoot has merit and I would suggest that the Client would have to be covered by a letter from the relevant authorities stating that he(in name) can shoot the animals. I am sure Kwan would ensure that.

Hi guys. There is big shi% in Maputu at the moment. Big mobs are looting and burning down buildings. 4 people have been killed. They are complaining about the high food prices in Moz. The South African media has suggested that anybody planing to travel to Maputu, postpone or cancel their plans. Use the info, dont use it, your choice

Maybe people getting eaten isn't that much of a "problem". Maybe its not if you eat people, but twhat people you eat that gets you on or off the PAC hit list. All joking aside it sounds like the government has decided that 20k and two dead lions is better than just two dead lions, and they are willing to accept the risk to the general populace.

Walt, We hunted Moz last year. If I recall, a visa is required for entry. I sent my passport to the consul 3 months in advance of our travels. It took 2 months to process. Something about a license, with 2 passport photos, well in advance again. DO you know if this process applies to only Americans? Is the 2 month application time somehow waived? My apologies for but I believe Moz has quick travel barriers in place for Americans, at least. "You only gotta do one thing well to make it in this world" - J Joplin

All I can say is that you need to find another service to process Visa applications. I hunted in Moz in July. I left my Passport in Harare when I arrived and ten days later when we were ready to move to Moz I had the Passport and a Moz Visa. Into and out of Zumbo was a piece of cake. Mike

Not to answer for Walt, but I asked the exact same question and was told that a visa could be bought upon arrival at the Moz Immigration desk at the Maputo airport. The first Moz trip I went on required a visa because where I was flying into (Mucamburra) could not issue a visa.

I wonder what the reaction would be from the US populace if our government was so honest about their "feelings"? Sorry Saeed, please don't move Walters post to the political forum.
|

that is exactly right. larger cities with airports and immigration offices can issue visas on the spot(Maputo, Beira, probably a few others). small border posts can't and the visa must be obtained in advance- for Americans that means the Moz embassy in Washington. was with Brad last year and we got our visas in advance. the previous year, it was issued on the spot when we landed in Beira on the charter from RSA.
