A terrific Kudu hunt

I like to find unique hunting opportunities to present to my clients and I believe I have found one here that would especially appeal to Kudu hunters. The hunt is in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa where the outfitter has hunting rights to 50,000 hectares of free range hunting areas made up of cattle and maize farms on top of 10,000 hectares of his own private hunting area, which also has a lot of different game on it.

What is unique about this hunt is that it is a summer hunt that takes during the months of December to February. At that time of the year the Kudu eat the yellow flowers of the Acacia tree and the nectar from these flowers get on these animals which attract the insects to them causing them to come out in to the open field and mountain plateaus! This is a unique area with high mountains, deep dense valleys, open mountain plateaus and flatter savannah areas scattered with Acacia trees.

All these conditions provide for a huge number of Kudu in the area and the opportunity to see a lot of Kudu and shoot some magnificent bulls. On a normal day of scouting it is not uncommon to see over a 100 cows and 20+ bulls. Furthermore the farmers in the area also provide regular information to the outfitter on sightings of exceptional bulls thereby enhancing the chances of shooting a once in a life time Kudu! The largest Kudu taken in this area was 64 inches!

The hunt takes place by driving to high points and glassing open areas. Once a good bull is spotted then the stalk is planned and the hunt is on. If you can take longer shots that is advantageous. By all accounts this hunt is more similar to a Mountain Nyala hunt than your typical Kudu hunt!

This area also has exceptional Nyala as well as common and mountain Reedbuck.

The farmers here are not very pleased with having so many Kudu around that they have asked the Outfitter to offer some specials during this prime period! So we have worked out some great packages which should appeal to some of you!

The PH looks like Chris of Aloe Africa Safaris.
We have hunted with him and had a great time. Saw some good bulls even in June just on his property.
