Dear AR members!

I have just been informed of a spare Oribi permit available for this year. Oribi permits are set in single digits per year around 5 or so. The hunt has to take place
during 2012, so is no doubt on short notice. Anyone ever wanting to hunt an Oribi, will understand how difficult it is to obtain a permit.
Hunt can be combined with other species as per our pricelist. First come first serve.

Day Rate: $320 per day. Arrival and Departure day free of charge.

Oribi Trophy fee: $1900 ( In the unlikely event of being unsuccessful, there will be no trophy fee applicable.)

We also have 5 pure strain Bontebok trophies with permits at $600 ea.( Half Price) Bontebok can also be combined with any other hunt.

Not AT ALL trying to step on your offer....but when did Oribi get so expensive (and Bontebok so reasonably priced) ? Just curious.

Sir,
Oribi has always been on the higher range of the pricelist. This is due to the demand, because of the difficulty of obtaining a permit. Certainly a Collector's species, if you want to call it that. The price I am offering it at is actually about $200-$400 less than most places.
The reason for the discounted Bontebok price, is simply because we need to get rid of some numbers.

Gentleman,
Just to answer a question, this is not an Oribi/Bontebok package. We can still do the Bontebok at that price, even without the Oribi.

Take Care,
Marius

Tendrams in south Africa oribi are not very common and very protected. Hence the high trophy fee.

I paid a grand ($1,000 USD) for my Oribi in 2006, and there are some fine trophies in RSA if your clever and a good shot. $6 bills for a pure strain Bontebok is a gift. Someone should grab this. LDK

I hope you understand I was not trying to talk down your offer. I shot my Oribi in Zim in 2001 and don't even recall the price because it was in duiker/steenbok range. I suppose the hunt locale matters greatly. I do agree with the above poster that the Bontebok price is a gift. If i were in RSA for business....I would come over just for that species.

The place in RSA I will go to hunt Oribi is more expensive than this offer.

Pardon my ignorance but when you refer to a pure strain of Bontebok, what does that mean?

When I was in RSA, I saw hundreds of Bontebok and would not shoot one, they just stood there like a beef cow. Just asking. No more, no less.

Wife and I completed a plains game hunt with Marius/KMG Hunting Safaris in May. This guy is outstanding and runs a very tight operation. If I could make this hunt work, I'd be all over it!

Thanks for the kind words John!
To answer your question, LittleJoe, and without getting into the whole genetics of it all and the Bontebok vs Blesbuck differences, Bontebok will crossbreed with Blesbuck. So, through the possibibility of this happening years back, an area might have a herd that are not 100% Bontebok pure. After successfully hunting a Bontebok with us, you will be issued with a certificate that proves that they are pure from DNA tests.
When it comes to hunting Bontebok and Blesbuck, the degree of difficulty will depend from area to area all depending on hunting pressure. This will sound crazy but some of the hardest hunts that I have had, has been for Blesbuck. Huge open grasslands, with no cover and huge herds all glassing for danger. Some leopard crawling to get into position was really the only option. The fact that Bontebok look somewhat like a Blesbuck, but with their hefty price tag, makes them more of a collector's specie, which kind of takes the hunting pressure off of them somewhat, which could be the reason that they might not be as spooky as other game. (please see "might")
Once you get up close to them, you will see that they are real attractive animals, with detail to their hide and face that sets them apart from the Blesbuck.
This is a chance for a guy to tick this species off without breaking the bank.
I could very well be able to offer the Bontebok at these rates for next year as well.

Take Care,
Marius

One question: Is Oribi natural to RSA or is it an introduced species?

Good day Sir,
The Oribi is definately indigenous to the Eastern Cape. We find them all along the coastal belt.

Marius Goosen

KMG, thanks for the info. I will admit that I had zero interest in a Blesbok last year but in the end it was a real hunt that I put a few days in to get it done and get a good ram.

The Bontebok are beautiful and to truly show the differences they need to be lifesize. I think 99% of the world does not know the difference between the two; sadly.

This is a smoking deal for someone. Wish I can find a way but too many irons in the fire now. Bontebok, if you get a true 100 percent one are absolutely stunning as a full mount. The color is almost a purple-black. I am sure I am not doing it justice by my description. If you see one that is purebred it is like night and day from the blesbok. The crossed strains not so impressive in my opinion. That was not a comment on your pure strain btw. It was a poor attempt at describing how beautiful they are. The white is also different. Correct me if my bad memory fails here but one has a broken line and the other is continuous.
Oribi of course needs no introduction.

Thanks Mike,
You speak true words. If you don't do the full mount, you need to find a way to incorporate that backskin into your home.
The Bontebok's colours are truly something else.
Thanks for posting.
