Do you have it in a pen or is it tied to a tree? 3 days! This ain't a hunt it's a killin'. If it's a killin' then call it that not a 'hunt'.

Brilliant, original response. I guess we're lucky it took more than an hour to get one of these unnecessary comments on the board. Now I wonder how long until someone inquires about the sable's name ....

And none of that goes on in Texas? Please. If you don't like the offer, move along chubs.

It would have been more subtle to ask how large the enclosure is.

It is a ranch hunt. This animal was obviously bought at auction so they know exactly how big it was. That doesn't have any relation to the property size or difficulty of hunt. That info needs to be requested from the gent offering the hunt/shoot for those into the semantics. Why is it everyone is into questioning offers and being rude out of the gate instead of politely asking for info first? Full moon I don't know about?

Excellent example of how to piss on a hunt offer you have no intention of booking.

I agree mostly with your reply. By the way, some animals are darted from time to time or otherwise handled to be treated etc. which can allow measuring. This is not necessarily a put and take animal.

Like many here I'm not a fan of put and take hunting and certainly not in respect of animals that are not wild or have not been in an area for a decent period of time, say a season.

The reality is that sable are high priced animals in South Africa. There is a great deal of game breeding here and this has saved several species and resulted in far higher (read huntable) populations of others. This has also increased the price of game animals like good stud quality livestock. Yes, it is contrived as gene selection has resulted in quite a number of huge sables (and buffalo and other animals), but few could afford to hunt those anyway due to the high price.

High value animals will often be treated differently as the cost of illenss or death is very high to the owner. That may or may not make them acustomed to human contact.

Of course despite kingd's response the really tame ones can be called in with a whistle and don't need to be tied up.

I agree that you need to ask the right questions from the right people and would not simply assume that this would not be a hunt, or a good experience.

I can't speak to the hunt offer , but I know Pieter personally and have hunted with him.
He is a top notch guy. Trust me if you ask civil questions you will get straight and honest answers.

King, you're a good fella' but that was kinda out of line.

This just implies that the hunt is for a Sable of 42" or larger. That doesn't mean necessarily a specific animal, heck he MAY have many bulls estimated at 42 or larger.

And yes you can do the same thing here in Texas for MANY different species.

The comments posted here is missing the point if you do not have something good to say or know all the facts dont pretend you are a "Know it all!"
Thanks for those who is defending me(EJ) and the offer.
It is not a put and take hunt simply some old sables that needs to be put to rest, done doing what bulls are suppose to do.

Sure wish this was next year! I will be in SA in May and would love to add this to the end of my first safari. And my wife just discovered Sables and of course, with her champagne taste, decided that one of those would be nice also!

That makes two of us, Ed. I second your evaluation of Pieter, and can also add that Roche is a really great PH to hunt with.

This is a perfect example of in sticking your nose into something has nothing to do with you.

If you are interested in this hunt, ask relevant questions and get answers for them.

If you are not interested, would not be better to not say anything?
