What Russ said. I've been dealing with Zim since it was Rhodesia, never had any problems, never broke any laws. Don't intend to start now. There are so many misconceptions in their laws and our own, it's a wonder anyone leaves their home, let alone goes to hunt in Africa. My hunts are legal, I'll leave it at that.

My goal is not to bust anybodies balls, but these hunts are very attractive to me, and from what I see, If I took part in them, I would be Poaching in Zimbabwe, no thanks. Caveat Emptor gentlemen.

If you were to partake in a PAC hunt, yes. But hunts to manage the over population in a area are not illegal. Some PH's do not want to offer them; they make their money on selling trophy hunts and a few loss leaders; tuskless cow hunts. The problem here is, too much speculation and misunderstanding of facts. As mentioned, I am not selling PAC hunts. These management hunts are legal, and laws will be followed to the letter.

LDK

Up until this post you have said nothing about management elephant hunts, you stated these were "crop raiding" eles in your original post, according to Parks, that makes them PAC which is illegal for foreign hunters.

Now you are stating that they are "management", how are you selling management hunts when the management quota has not been set, specified or released to date?

You say you take issue with being "framed as a liar", I have only asked questions as this hunt was attractive to me but wanted to make sure it was legal. However, I would say the way you have responded to these questions, changed your story, directly contradicted yourself and those that are currently personally involved in elephant hunting and management in Zim, you have drawn a frame around yourself, and the picture is quite clear. If you can show me (and the rest of this board) how I am wrong, and your offered hunt is not subject to the same rules, laws and regulations every other Zimbo's is, I will retract that statement with a smile and an apology, as it is indeed a good offer, if legal.

505 Gibbs, your doing what you do best...stir up trouble anytime and anyway you can. IF you had any interest in this hunt, what kept you from contacting me personally??? I would have gladly answered any concerns or questions without having to submit to your witch hunt. Yes, I admit freely I called the hunt a crop raiding hunt as an incorrect cliche, not realizing I would start this diatribe of yours. I have been dealing with Rhodesia/Zimbabwe since the '70's and this is a first for me...to have someones only intent to string me up over a misuse of words. I'm really most curious as to why you didn't contact me personally, yet decided to start your own BBQ on AR? But I forget, that's what you live to do, and I see you in the fray often. Bottom line, management hunts are legal for foriegners to partake. These Elephant are non exportable, that includes sneaking out hair or other parts.
Kind regards,
LDK

LDK:

Why should 505 Gibbs contact you personally through a PM? You advertised a hunt for sale on a public forum and now want to take it private? Let's recap: You offered a hunt for "crop raiders" of any sex that read as a PAC hunt. PAC hunts, as we know, cannot be offered for sale in Zim to outside clients. Now you declare it is a "management hunt" but those quotas have not been set by Parks to the best of our knowledge to date. With questions being asked, you attack 505 Gibbs as a trouble maker. Does this ring a bell for AR readers? Remember the dubious hunt offered by Atkinson last year along similar lines? Little information, mixed "facts" and details, and belligerent response to questions and concerns.

LDK, a public question. Have you represented this outfitter/PH with this type of hunt before in this area? I was at SCI in Reno and did not personally hear of any management hunts being offered or discussed. Please remember that you worded and made the public offer. I hope you did the proper due diligence on this hunt as well.

Respectfully,

RCG

RCG, if you have any interest in this hunt, you may contact me on the phone. Better yet, email me with your number and I'll be glad to call you. Yes, this outfitter is a good friend of mine and I've hunted with him numerous times. If you read the many replies I've answered in 2 AR forums, you would see I go back to the 1970s with hunting in Rhodesia and Zim. If I were selling illegal hunts I wouldn't last long. I never said it was a PAC hunt. Guess who did? Now your using that word. This badgering is getting old...quick. If your only here to badger me, please stop. And FYI, everything in the world doesn't revolve around SCI.

Mr. Kieth

Could you perhaps clear up a bit of confusion for me. You "have been dealing with Zim since it was Rhodesia"?

In what capacity did you deal with Rhodesia?

Rhodesia became Zimbabwe in 1980, so presumably from 1979 prior, you "dealt with Rhodesia". Your own bio from your website, quoted below, says you first hunted big game in North America in your 20s, then made your first Africa trip to South Africa?

So, what did you do in Rhodesia- it seems you want to imply you have been booking hunts, or at least dealing with the laws of the country since 1979.

You don't look more than 45 in your website photos, but to start hunting in your 20s, then go to Africa, and "deal with Rhodesia"....

Best scenario for you- you go to Rhodesia in the last year of its existence, 1979, when you are 25, that would make you ---- 56 years of age?

What am I missing here? Please explain-

CITATIONS:

I quote from your website:

"I didn't begin hunting big game until my early twenties and progressed to hunting the Western States within a few years. I have been very successful in taking many Whitetail and Mule Deer, Black Bear, Pronghorn Antelope, Elk and exotics here in the United States, but Africa became a reality in motion when my friend and I booked a 10 day hunt in South Africa and took a total of 28 trophies between us."

and then in this thread:

"What Russ said.
Regards,
David"

ADDED--FROM YOUR WEBSITE- NO MENTION OF RHODESIA

"Words or even pictures can't descibe how awesome Africa truly is. You have to see it to believe it! I have since hunted many areas of Zimbabwe and continue to hunt much of South Africa's Provinces."

You two better watch it. Even though he is offering hunts that have not been authorized by Parks to date nor has a quota been set, you may be contacted by the fearsome law firm of Doug Chester, Esq for questioning his statements. Big Grin

And by the way, it is spelled "Rowland Ward" not "Roland Ward". Might want to correct your website and your AR sig line.

Jesus, now this has turned into a real fun post. FYI; in the late 1970s, I booked for Dave Jobert and Geoff Broom. Geoff and Dave both visited me here in my home. I never said anything about me hunting Rhodesia in that time. I only booked for them. I was a taxidermist at that time. I have answered as many questions as I intend to as frankly my personal life is my business, and no one else that I perceive as an instigator of trouble.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."
