Friends, last year I had a great bear and moose hunt with Crabbes River Outfitters in Newfoundland. Taking a huge Black Bear and a nice Moose. As per usual, they have one Caribou tag for this year; 2016. Dates are Oct 30th - Nov 4th and Nov 6th - 11th. Maybe the week after if the hunter requires it. First date you'll stay in cabins or motels. Second hunt you'd be mobile, following the migration. You fly into Deer Lake where you are met and taken to Burgeo to follow the migration. Cost is $7,000 and includes food, lodging, license/tag etc. This is a rare chance to tag one of the most desirable Caribou species.

My how things have changed.

In 1996, I hunted Newfoundland with Leo Hammond in the Crabbes River Area. I did 5 Day combination Moose/Woodland Caribou and Black Bear hunt, for $4200.00 total.

I had heard that the Woodland Caribou herd had gone down in numbers and the prices had gone up. It was an experience I will never forget, my stag was not all that big but I am, proud of the rack, more so as getting the chance to hunt Woodlands are diminishing.

Populations have plummeted from the late 90's. I think they are around 1/3 of what they were at their historical highs.
I don't know anything about this outfitter but that is a very reasonable price if they are producing. I've see a lot higher.

Having hunted with these folks myself, I can assure anyone they work at producing a good hunt. I don't think there would be any problem getting a Caribou, and if selective, a decent bull. Their all inclusive hunts are a good bargain. You are only out additional funds for your flight to Deer Lake; meat processing and shipping of your cape/antlers. If anyone has specific questions, just give me a call. You are not paying me any fee's or commission, I'm selling this hunt as is, you'll be paying the outfitter directly. LDK

If you have never hunted Newfoundland and need to complete your caribou collection, this is going to be your best shot. Last time I checked into Woodland caribou after my hunt, it was listed POR and at that time it was in the 10K to 12K range.

It will be an experience and a chance to collect a species that may not be available in the future.

Even the rocks don't last forever.
