I just logged in for the first time since arriving at Hammond on the 16th evening. This place is “Buffalo Central”. Tons of buffalo and elephant around. My buddy is 81 years old and a bit slow. Regardless, he shot a fantastic buffalo our 2nd evening. 16” bosses and 42” spread with good, deep curls and long tips. He shot very well, 2 perfectly placed TSX’s from my 375 I brought for him and his bull went less than 30 yards before dropping. I’ve been hunting a “non-trophy, non-export management bull” which I stretched out by passing up quite a few until shooting the pictured one on day six. Alan & I were 10-40 yards from buffalo pretty constantly for 3 1/2 days, having a ball getting among them in very thick bush from the heavy and late rainy season. I finally shot what I wanted…. An old, broken boss, tips broomed bull. We’re guessing him at 12-13 years old. He was in a large herd we somehow got into the middle of and shot him at about 30 yards. One 416 Bearclaw and he went about 50 yards. Even at that, it was so thick it took a bit to find him. If you enjoy buffalo hunting, Hammond is a great place to do it. I think a trophy bull along with 2 or 3 non-trophy management bulls would make for a perfect 10-day hunt. Tomorrow is our last day. I hate that we have to head home.

I have been 4 times . 09-12. Back then, there was a massive amount of buffalo . A friend of mine will be managing the place later this year . He says there are indeed massive amounts of buffalo.
