Person take rifles, that is. Heading from USA thru Frankfurt to Windhoek on Lufthansa and Air Namibia. Is it possible for me to take three rifles of different calibers? Without being stopped or arrested, I mean... Eeker

I have done so MSP AMS DAR on Delta/KLM but had Gracy help me do so.

Use Gracy or one of the other services and see what they say. Haven't gone thru Germany or to Namibia.

Namibia restricts automatics and handguns, but not numbers as far as I know. We have taken 2 rifles and 1 shotgun to Namibia often - rifles being a big bore and a medium for plains game.

But a question if I may - why would you want to take 3 rifles of differing calibers to Africa ?

If I take two rifles, I only have the wrong rifle in my hands 50% of the time.

That answer is easy - an iron sighted double rifle for dangerous game, a medium caliber scoped bolt rifle for plains game, and a scoped .17 HMR to shoot Guinea Fowl and Francolin for the trackers. That pretty much describes my "Africa battery".

Frank makes an excellent point. I think taking a third gun that is not a shotgun or a very small caliber to shoot birds and such could cause confusion at an inopportune time and is completely unnecessary. PH's that I know don't recommend it. I don't think though that there is any legal reason to not take three guns but I'd check it out with the airlines.

Keep in mind that Air Namibia charges $100 US EACH WAY for gun boxes. If you take 3 guns in two gun boxes, that's $400 round trip. Just making two guns in one box will save you $200 round trip.

I have always been able to fit my 3 guns in soft cases in a TuffPak and still come in under the 50 pound limit for the bag.

I have never taken three guns to Africa but I did take three on a varmint hunt once and Delta told me they have a limit of two per case. Not sure if that was BS or not; in the end they let me take the three.

The airlines all have their own baggage handling rules and many of them limit you to one guncase containing no more than two firearms.

From what I understand, officially you are allowed 2 per case, but they can waive that (requires prior notice...)

Really with all the rules, I would strongly recommend using a travel agent who deals with guns.

Gracy has worked very well for me, but others on this site like others. Use a good agent and hopefully it is seamless.

I have only flown South African Airways when heading to Zimbabwe, and they did not have any rules about how many guns could be in my TuffPak.
