Hey guys I know this suject has been hashed out on here before, but I never could get a defenative answer!! This is for all the frequent travelers on here.. I need to get a CC that accumulates flight miles that can be applied to flights taken.. I plan on using the heck out of it in 2009 with all the multi out of state apps, my Asian hunt in Oct, etc.. in turn, I'm hoping to accumulate enough to cover my flight back to Africa in 2010.. I know, I know, I should have been doing this a LONG time ago, but I never got around to doing it..Last 4 trips across the big drink to hunt have just paid for the old fashioned way..

Thanks and I hope to hear some of your suggestions.

Try for a card that gives you the most choices of airlines and of course low rates.

One of the American Express Rewards cards will work nicely. You can transfer the miles to any of several airlines, giving you a lot more flexibility.

x2 for Amex. Used them 5 times for front of the bus tix to Africa.

They transfer at 1 point to 1 mile on Delta. 120k for business seats to Africa, though tey could go as high as 240k depending on travel dates.

Delta code shares with Air France, which have more seats available. Not a bad way to go either. 12 hours to Europe, 10 to Africa. Nice break in between flights.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I like the Alaska Air plan as both Delta and British Air are partners in the plan allowing me to use miles on most any trip I might want to take. KLM is also a partner but using miles with them is very difficult.

Northwest and Quantas as well. We flew to Australia and Bali on our Alaska Air miles via Quantas.

The Capital one card that i use gives 2 mile for every dollar spent. You can use it on any airline. You have to check their web site to get all the facts.

Not just to out-do Chris--- but Capital One now has a 3 to 1 card.
I carry the 2 to one. Any airline any time. You have to spend a few more miles than other cards, but I like the any airline part.

But the intl tickets are too expensive. Over 700,000 miles for BE to Africa. I have gotten 8 BE Class seats to Africa for 120k miles each. That is pretty hard any longer, i have seen them up to 320k now. We just tried to get tickets to JRO in Aug, 270k to AMS each, then they wanted $4800 to fly business class to JRO, so we just bought the BE Class tickets all the way over.

They are making it harder and harder to use you miles. I have over 1 million now.

We try to use AMEX Platinum for almost every purchase we make. You get a mile for every dollar. We've been across the pond in both directions First Class on AMEX FFM. The only way to fly!

Alaska Airline CC.
If you're a frequent flyer you build miles rapidly, sometimes 2 to 1. Plus anything other than flying you build 1 to 1. I've got just shy of 1 million miles and as others have said they have lots of partners.

Man - I would like to find some of these 120-160k miles first class deals to Africa. I have the Delta AMEX - and have over 200k Sky miles. Right now they want 130k coach and 230k 1st class to JNB. That is Delta using miles...

what am I missing? I just about have to acrue Delta miles as that is the airline that has 90% of the flights from here. I fly 60-100k miles a year and have Gold Status, but I never find these great 1st class deals to Africa...

I use Citibank for American Airlines miles. They partner with BA and I get everywhere I need to be. I am not a Delta fan or AMex as they are constantly changing the rules and mileage requirements.

Use which ever card fits you. They are all about the same.

The AMEX Plt. Charge card not the Delta Plt. Credit Card. The AMEX Plt. is $450 per year.

The deal is still current on their website which I linked to above. I believe British Air has added a fuel surcharge to maileage tickets though for international travel.
