I'm sure this has been asked a million times but here goes once more. When flying with guns from Canada to Joberg, is there an advantage to going through Frankfurt vs London? The tickets are about $800 cheaper through London but I was wondering about traveling with firearms there vs Frankfurt. I know Frankfurt is very simple.

Thanks!

As I understand it (have never done it so my "expert" credentials are still intact Wink),
the biggest problem arises when your flight from N.A. arrives at one London airport (Heathrow, for example), but your flight for Africa departs from the other (Gatwick) or vice versa. Getting your gun(s) transported from one to the other is cumbersome and costly, not to mention time consuming.

If you both arrive and depart from the same airport and your guns are checked through to your final destination, it shouldn't make any difference whether you are transiting London or Frankfurt.

Had a rifle removed from the case, driven over by a fork lift or some such vehicle, and put back in the case. Haven't been through London since '99

We are heading through London from Calgary on Sept 6. I will keep you posted on how it goes. We are using an agent in Calgary that has had good success with all her clients travelling with guns to Africa. The last clients have had no trouble through London and the airport has apparently improved in the last couple years.

If this is who i think it is, give me a call if you want.

London is a breeze. Fly Canada to Heathrow on BA, change planes and on to JNB. Check you guns and luggage all the way through. BA has an excellent record of delivering you and your luggage to your destination all on the same day. I've flown through London a dozen times myself and have several clients each year use that route. Nobody has had baggeage problems.

We are headed through Heathrow on to Jo-berg to arrive on Joberg on the 6th in the AM 06:55 if I recall (don't have the itinerary in front of me). Are you on that same flight?
