Emirates in September will start flying direct Orlando to Dubai once a day with a B777-200LR.

So long Jo-burg. Time to stop by and see Saeed and shoot the 700.

This is pretty cool as it opens up Africa, India, Thailand and even Western Australia - all one stop from Orlando.

Does Dubai have any transit rules for firearms? I might do Emirates if they don't.

They do- you need prior approval to travel with firearms, they suggest giving them a 2 weeks notice. I have done it several times, once was a nightmare- couldn't get anyone to help me. Once I figured out you need to get Emirates Group Security involved, things went much better.

Yes, make SURE you get you approval papers. Even if you don't take possession of your firearm in Dubai, it will be confiscated if you don't have your permit in order. A friend didn't get his rifle back for 6 months.

Your travel agent can take care of all the requirements.

American hunters are flying daily through Dubai without any hassle.

Just like everything else with travel nowadays, especially with firearms, one has to get himself organized.

Unfortunately though there is conflicting info between what is printed on the Emirates website and the info provided by our local office. If I fill in the declaration form provided by my local office in advance, do I still need to personally contact UAE customs and dept of defence as the Emirates webpage suggests http://www.emirates.com/au/eng...en_au&stop_mobi=yes?

No you don't.

You need to contact Emirates and tell them you are travelling with firearms.

That is why I suggest you deal with a travel agent who might aware of what needs top be done.

I strongly suggest you book through an agent who knows what to do, as travelling with firearms nowadays throws another angle to it.

Trying to do it yourself might work.

And then again, it might not.

All you have to do is contact NYCRREK2@emirates.com
and they will tell you exactly what forms and documents you need to scan and email them. Piece of cake and we did a three day stop over.

Cheers
Jim

Personally I will not fly any airlines that will ship me but not my trophies unless it is my ONLY option. Just my $.02...

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
- Rudyard Kipling

Life grows grim without senseless indulgence.
