There are some new rules on checked baggage in select areas . If one is flying from Seoul to a US city flying through Atlanta, one does not have to claims their bags in Atlanta. One can claim them at their final destination. I was shocked. I talked to a Delta person in Orlando . According to him there are several places where this is allowed . Saved me a bunch of time.

On all my past flights including transits and/or a change of aircraft, I have always checked my suitcases through to final destination and duly collected. I have had one instance where my suitcase was mistakenly offloaded by the baggage handlers at a transit stop but which arrived at destination the following day.

CBP launches innovative International Remote Baggage Screening Initiative to enhance security and streamline travel Release Date Tue, 04/08/2025 WASHINGTON – U.S. Customs and Border Protection is proud to announce the implementation of a groundbreaking process to enhance the efficiency of international travel. The new International Remote Baggage Screening initiative allows for passengers arriving in the U.S. from foreign airports to continue to their connecting flights without the need to re-check their bags, unless specifically referred by CBP for further inspection. This streamlined process aims to reduce wait times and improve the overall travel experience for passengers. CBP personnel can now view the same checked baggage x-ray images captured at the foreign international airport and review them remotely before the aircraft lands. This proactive approach enables CBP to assess potential security risks more effectively and expedites the processing of arriving flights. The IRBS initiative does not change the current Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening requirements or process for checked baggage. CBP is currently testing and working alongside American Airlines for its daily flight from Sydney International Airport to Los Angeles International Airport and expects to be operational beginning April 9, 2025. The initiative will expand to other routes and airlines in the future. This collaboration highlights CBP’s dedication to improving security protocols while facilitating the flow of international travelers through select U.S. Ports of Entry. “As part of our innovation efforts in air travel, CBP is leveraging technology to enhance baggage inspections to further secure and streamline travel,” said Acting Executive Assistant Commissioner Office of Field Operations, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Diane J. Sabatino. “The International Remote Baggage Screening initiative is a significant step forward in modernizing our processes and providing a secure and seamless experience for international travelers.” Secure and efficient processing of U.S. citizens, trusted travelers, and visitors to the U.S. is critical for economic and national security of the United States which cannot be accomplished exclusively with facility improvements, personnel, or stakeholder improvements. CBP’s Airport Modernization plans on enhancing security and traveler experience through multifaceted technology innovation in the CBP Federal Inspection Station. The IRBS initiative is part of CBP’s Airport Modernization plan. Kathi kathi@wildtravel.net 708-425-3552 "The world is a book, and those who do not travel read only one page."

This is nothing new. 15 or so years ago I flew Etihad Airways to Africa via Abu Dabai. On the return, I actually cleared US Customs and Immigration in Abu Dabai. They had a checkpoint there in the airport. When I walked up and gave the agent my passport, he scanned . A minute later he showed me a picture of my bag on a conveyor belt and asked if it was mine. After telling him yes, he stamped my passport and said welcome home- in Abu Dabai. On arrival in LA, I skipped the incoming US citizen line and went straight to the transfer exit line. I was traveling without a rifle. Vote Trump- Putin’s best friend… To quote a former AND CURRENT Trumpiteer - DUMP TRUMP

This is different. I have done things similar to what you encountered in a number of airports . In this case, I never went through passport control or customs ANYWHERE.

Yes it was . I spoke to a guy with Delta in Orlando. He led me to believe that either this is happening or going to happen with some other cities.

That’ll be great if it expands to other major airports and airlines. Karl Evans

My son and I flew Qatar out of Houston to Zim last month and were able to check our rifles at the ticket counter without being asked to open my Tuffpac or having to roll it down to the TSA check point.
