Anyone have any experience or knowledge about Comair Limited airlines that is the British Airways subsiderary (sp) in the south african region. They fly throughout several cities there and of course I'm interested in the Joberg-Windhoek-Joberg routes. Trying to get a feel for them compared to either Air Namibia (cheapest price, but limited flights that meet my needs) and South African Airways, more flights, highest cost and probably with the most BS to put up with when traveling with firearms.

I flew Joberg-Windhoek return in 2008 and honestly thought it was better service than SAA or Air N. Sure was a lot less hassle with my guns too. Planes were smaller but more leg room.I also got the chance to burn some air points due to their BA affiliation. I'd check for an update on their firearms policy as everything seems to change by the month these days. What are you going to hunt in Namibia ?

Ridgeman, will be hunting in Namibia in Sept. 2008 AFTER a hunt in South Africa. The SA hunt is for Nyala, bushbuck, warthog, Mt. Reedbuck (maybe a impala ram for the cape)and then to Nam for the 5 days of NON-trophy hunting for Gemsbok, Red Hartebeest and Kudu. This will be my 3rd trip to Nam and this arrangement I concluded with the outfitter will allow me to hunt more animals at less cost (not paying normal full trophy fees) and is a different part of Nam where I haven't been before and will have very little taxidermy cost then either. Just a chance to hunt more at a lower cost.

I've flown that route and it was a good flight. I flew BA into Johannesburg and then Comair to Windhoek. Zero problems of any kind and that includes firearms. On the return to Johannesburg there was a bit of a discussion about my baggage weight which was essentially the same as I'd had coming in but my PH talked them out of charging me excess baggage fees repeatedly pointing out that my allowance coming in was greater than they wanted to give me. There were no issues with my firearms outbound either. Never worry about theory as long as the machinery does what it's supposed to do.

Did you have your bags including firearms checked all the way through to Windhoek and thus avoid the SAPS? ______________________ DRSS ______________________ Hunt Reports 2015 His & Her Leopards with Derek Littleton of Luwire Safaris - http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/2971090112 2015 Trophy Bull Elephant with CMS http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/1651069012 DIY Brooks Range Sheep Hunt 2013 - http://forums.accuratereloadin...901038191#9901038191 Zambia June/July 2012 with Andrew Baldry - Royal Kafue http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/7971064771 Zambia Sept 2010- Muchinga Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/4211096141 Namibia Sept 2010 - ARUB Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/6781076141

What is a rough estimate on flight cost from Joberg to Windhoek? I know it all depends, i just mean a general figure. Tom Addleman tom@dirtnapgear.com

Seems like I've paid between $250 and $350 on the occassions I have flown that route. "...Africa. I love it, and there is no reason for me to explore why. She affects some people that way, and those who feel as I do need no explanation." from The Last Safari

I enjoy flying Air Namibia maybe it was luck but most of the times the flights are not very full once we were 15 people on the whole plane flying back to Joburg. Frederik Cocquyt I always try to use enough gun but then sometimes a brainshot works just as good.

I'm booked on SAA in late April and it was $508 round trip. 30+ years experience tells me that perfection hit at .264. Others are adequate but anything before or after is wishful thinking.

That is correct, my bags and "sporting weapons" as BA says were checked through. Never worry about theory as long as the machinery does what it's supposed to do.
