The EU has adopted a new entry system that goes into effect in October. Called EES, it will use biometrics in place of passport stamps. Link below to learn more about it… https://travel-europe.europa.eu/en/ees Karl Evans

No idea how this is going to work, as so many travelers from third world countries don’t have it! Got into Zurich airport once, just after a plane arrived from India, I think! They had several lanes with electronic entry, you scan your passport and get it. The immigration hall was jam packed. They had In think 4 lanes of officers processing passports. Took ages to get through! I am not sure if the current system employed by some countries is not the same. They scan your passport and it shows all details on the screen! They know who you are even if you change passport. I know that is a fact at Dubai airport. I think there is a cross reference by the name and date of birth!

I suspect it’ll be really screwed up at the onset but maybe they’ll get it sorted out. The system at Dubai’s airport, SMART gates, I think they are called, work very well for the most part. First time visitors have to go thru an immigration officer and if you have a white beard, the camera sometimes can’t identify you and the screen directs you to an officer. Happened to me last month on one of four entries. The one time the system couldn’t identify me the officer who scanned my passport told me it was my beard and that if I tilted my head forward, or down, that the system would work. She was right.
