It's been a while since I've done this. How far in advance do I need to apply for a visa (I'm working on geeting enough pages in my passport now) and the Dutch firearms permit? My recollection is six weeks. Any different news? Going in March.

Also, anyone hear what the deal is on knives through Amsterdam?

Iavaca:
No info on knives.
Amsterdam is 6 weeks (minimum) and call the police station and speak to Mr. Trump if your permit is delayed. Should be done the next day.
Tanzania's visa you can collect upon arrival. You can do it in advance by sending your passport to the Tanzanian embassy in DC. However, if lost, it will take time to replace your passport.
Cheers,
Cal

Why six weeks minimum? They never issue them until just before your trip.

I faxed my app last week and then called to ensure they received it. I am leaving on Jan 15 and they didn't seem to think that was a problem.

Actually, it dawned on me tonight flying back to PHX that in 2009 I booked a hunt in Tanz with less than 3 weeks notice and don't recall having a problem with my AMS transit permit.
