I’ve been watching all of these supposedly vaccinated athletes who are being tested as positive for COVID after already being vaccinated and/or already recovering from COVID. That got me to wondering, what will any of us do if we get a rapid PCR test at the airport and test positive? You can’t fly, you’ve already paid for your hunt, the operator can’t replace you on such short notice; what the hell are you going to do if you test positive when departing for Africa?

I’ve already had COVID and recovered, got vaccinated with J&J shot and now I’m wondering ‘What will I do if rapid PCR test at SFO was to come back positive on my departure day?

Has this happened to anyone among us? Has anyone else pondered this scenario?

I would take another test. If still positive, then I guess one is screwed. At least the air fare would not burn.

Now, I did ponder it. As a result I have limited my interactions with people for the last two weeks to make sure I don't catch anything. Worked from home exclusively and postponed all in person meetings to after August 24th when I get back. I get my PCR test tomorrow.

My concern, that has kept me from booking a trip to Africa, is what would you do if you test positive when trying to return home.

We do not need a test to come back home.

I am traveling back tomorrow and just a message from Emirates confirming my flight.

It says passengers need a PCR test.

UAE nations are exempt, and will be test on arrival.

Well, has anybody who didn't feel sick consider altering their test results? I know there are plenty of folks buying "fake" covid test results online, so I've got to think doctoring the test results is a possibility.
Not necessarily advocating this approach, and clearly if sick you should stay home. Just recognizing that there are many options not routinely addressed.

Wouldn’t even dream of it.

Very irresponsible both for you and others.

Trust the PCR test much? Trumps gone so now the "science" shifts.

i took the free antigen test at local govt testing site. clear of covid.

next day i took a pcr test. 36 hours lter clear of covid.

before flight I took a $195 pcr-rt test. was not sure if India required pcr or pcr-rt.

turns out free pcr works

also i got delayed 24 hrs in Atlanta - the $195 pcr-rt became a life saver as it extended the 72 window to include 24 delay.

traveling with covid restrictions suck - especially uploading test to govt websites ect

fucking idiotic to use forge test results when you could add ending up in a foreign jail or medical quarantine to a vacation.

Folks,

First of I wouldn't be traveling without having taken the Covid vaccine. Unless your MD says in your case to not take the vaccine I be marching my butt to Wal Mart or wherever it's available and get the jab traveling or not.

It hasn't happened yet and I hope it doesn't but the operators I'm dealing with are letting you quarantine in camp or in their own facility in the city. Doesn't sound like fun but better than some government run operation. As suggested I'd be finding out when I could take another test once I tested positive.

I brought up this very thing in a thread "Worst case Scenario". If you read the statement coming from the U.S. Embassy in Zimbabwe, it clearly states that anyone coming from XXX countries and specifically says the U.S., you will be required to quarantine upon arrival. It does not say "if you are positive" it just says if you are coming from the U.S. This is a huge roll of the dice because all governments cannot be trusted and can change their interpretations at any time.
I would sure like to hear from anyone coming back from Zim in the last few days (not what happened in May), I need to hear something more current.
Thanks

I leave in a little over 2 weeks. There's quite a bit of money on the line and I have to have a negative test. No one would sell trip insurance, of course. But as with others, my main concern is a positive test before the return trip and having to quarantine in Dar. Mark raised a great option, I'd rather quarantine in camp. But I wouldn't know until I'd already chartered back. That said, it wouldn't be all that much more to charter back to camp than a hotel.

My firm is likely to make me quarantine for two weeks after returning as well. Fortunately, my home office is identical to my office office.

Lavaca, all I can add to your post is it's obvious there are a bunch of die hard safari addicts on this site to go through this s**t storm just to hunt Africa. LOL

Just arrived in Zim along with my son and two other hunters from the US.
No quarantine required for any of us. Customs process was no different than any other time, actually easier as there were less airline passengers.

I don't know about this years safari hunters being "die Hard" safari addicts because half of the folks I've sent to Africa this year are newbies. To my knowledge and I'd be the first to know none of them have had major travel or entrance exit problems in Southern Africa.

Yup, and I'm one of them, and not regretting a minute of the trips. I've been there twice in the last 6 months, going thru Addis Ababa one trip and Doha the other, hunting both SA and Namibia on both trips. Lots of Covid tests, but that's about all the hassle there was.

Remember, forgivness is easier to get than permission.
