Best fare I can find right now for my trip to Namibia:

Leave Tampa and fly to Newark or JFK by Delta.

Fly Singapore Airlines to Frankfurt.

Air Namibia to Windhoek.

Cost for the TPA to FRA part of the trip - $777

Gracy Travel is saying, "Fly Delta all the way - cost will be $1410" and yet I'm finding much cheaper fares on my own, even with Delta.

I've had no problems with Delta and I wouldn't think Air Namibia would be either. I can't comment on Singapore.

Singapore may or may not have a baggage agreement with Air Namibia. If not, you've got a problem (extra work and potentially red tape) in getting your gun(s) transferred from Singapore to AN.

Extra inter-line transfers like Delta-Singapore in NY present dreaded additional opportunities for your baggage to go astray. Avoid them to the extent possible.

Check with Kathi who posts here. She is a wealth of information on African travel and will help you without obligation. She may or may not be able to get you the very cheapest ticket, but if she can even get close, I would recommend her.

Read this before booking your own international travel with firearms.

As much as I like to save a few bucks, I would try to eliminate as many transfers as possible on your trip to Africa. IMO the risk of missing baggage and the extra day of travel each way is not worth the $300 you may save. Book the shortest flight with the fewest transfers and if the price Gracy or other agents recomended on this forum quote you is within $100..use them. If you run into problems they can save your bacon!

Eric,

The Internet is a great place for many things. It is NOT a place for the inexpereinced safari traveler to book an international flight with guns. Use Gracy Travel and save the possibilities of some real hassles. This is the single best piece of info I can give you on a first safari.

I have flown with firearms on Air Namibia. No problems. No better or worse than Delta, SAA, or United.

Thanks, guys. So far the best and most responsive service I have gotten has been from Kathi. I did find out that Air India has a NO FIREARMS policy, and Singapore Air has not answered repeated inquiries.

Instead of just looking into a Tampa-Atlanta-Frankfurt-Windhoek route for me, Kathi found a Orlando-Frankfurt-Windhoek route for me at about $300 less, shorter flights, less layovers, and 2 less flights overall (two less opportunities for lost luggage) and the luggage can be checked straight through to WDH.

True, the wife has to drive me to Orlando, but it is in the evening instead of mid-day, which will allow me time to rest and recuperate from my 10.5 hour shift at the hospital the night before (I get off at 0200 in the AM)

So far very happy with Kathi's help.

I apologize to Kathi for not mentioning her in my suggestion that hunters use an experienced hutning travel agent. That was a careless oversight. Sorry.

And that level of service is for a potential customer. Imagine how helpful they will be after they have cashed your check!
