Seen this mentioned a few times on here by seasoned travellers. Unfortunately we often have at least one domestic leg here prior to heading OS to hunt, and I was under the impression that this was not acceptable in Australia . Anyone like to comment on the legality or otherwise of doing this rather than keeping them in the rifle case or a separate case in your checked luggage? Formerly Gun Barrel Ecologist

Don't know about Australia, but I just went to Moz and back from Texas with scope, binos, camera and two trail cams in my carry - on without a hitch or even a look-see.

TSA considers a Scope to be a Gun Part, but does allow them in your carry on. However you may encounter a agent that wants to give you a hard time about it? Safest bet is to put it in your Gun Case.

GBE Do not put your scope in your carry-on. You are only asking for trouble if you do this. Leave it in your gun case. Mark MARK H.
