If the airline would make these people pay for the delay, this kind of stuff would stop.

I am no longer surprised by the stupidity of the vast majority of people.

On a similar vein, when my daughter was in high school, she set up our Wifi and named it FBI van down the street. We never got hacked.

They need to make the penalties much more injurious for these offenses (along with scammers). People here got the message that you can do whatever you want without consequences the last 4 years. Time for a return to normalcy by force if necessary.

That should place the individual on the "do not fly list"

A 6 month stint in the slammer is normally a good cure for such individuals.

My brother is a retired airline pilot.
They had a passenger with "Al-Qaeda Headquarters" as a WiFi network name.
Security came through the plane with an electronic device that could find the computer it was coming from.
As you stated "how stupid". He argued and pushed the cops.
He was yelling "It was a joke" as they dragged his ass off the plane.

"FBI Surveillance Van" is considered funny and gets a pass.

A number of years ago , I was trying to fly home from Monroe, LA. To make a long story short , a woman in the military made a bomb threat against the plane . She had been home for Christmas, got engaged and didn’t want to return to her post. She was quickly identified and taken off the plane in cuffs.

Talk about stupid .

Talking of stupid, listen to this.

I was flying out of Munich airport years ago

Got through security, and sat close to my gate which was right by the security station.

Enjoying a coffee and the usual strange sights at air ports.

Suddenly, there was some commotion at the security station, and two armed men - with MP5 - appeared.

I was on the verge of making myself scarce from that area, until I realized the person of interest is a boy of about 5!

Apparently he had a tiny knife in his bag.

The knife couldn’t have been more than an inch long.

An argument continued between the airport security and the parents.

This went on for a very long time.

My flight was called, and I left.

They were still arguing!

We look at this all wrong. We try to keep any knife or other weapon off the plane, but every once in a while one sneaks through, like what happened in 911.
But all the good guys are unarmed. What if the 911 terrorists pulled a boxcutter and 200 passengers pulled knives of their own?
