Ca anyone provide any fairly recent travel experiences on BA thru Heathrow? The only reasonable flights we could find for an upcoming hunt with our very good friends, the Rudman’s at Blaauwkrantz Safaris in the Eastern Cape were on BA. We learned today that they impose a fee of 130 Euros for each guncase and each ammo case! Seems pretty excessive to me, but it is what is …fukkers!! Karl Evans

Let me put it this way. I will avoid Bloody Awful Airlines at any cost. And flying through Heathrow is just another reason to avoid them!

If we could’ve found flights for the days needed for the number of seats we needed (5), we would not have used BA. Got an email over the weekend from them informing there is a charge for carriage of firearms and ammo…$130.00 each case and ammo will be checked separately. And, o heard from two hunters that traveled on BA earlier this year that in Heathrow they were called off of the plane and made to stand outside the aircraft door until all other passengers had boarded, no reason given. I’m not looking forward to these flights. Karl Evans

Karl, BA is particularly careful with firearms. Just do as you're instructed and all will be fine. I've traveled through Heathrow with guns many times without incident. The handling fee for guns is high but there will be one employee assigned to handle your guns and they will be stored in a separate hold in the plane from the rest of the luggage. Enjoy your trip. In 2010 flying BA through Heathrow the BA ticket agent in Seattle didn't like the fact we were headed to Africa to kill things and put about twenty staples through the bar code on the baggage ticket on the Tuffpak, Got to Heathrow without incident but after boarding and putting on my first class jammies and slippers an orange vested BA representative came and got me out of first class and took me back out the plane down onto the tarmac to identify my tuffpak before loading it because the barcode wouldn't scan. I would agree with Mark, they will go out of their way to be careful with that firearm case. ______________________ DRSS ______________________ Hunt Reports 2015 His & Her Leopards with Derek Littleton of Luwire Safaris - http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/2971090112 2015 Trophy Bull Elephant with CMS http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/1651069012 DIY Brooks Range Sheep Hunt 2013 - http://forums.accuratereloadin...901038191#9901038191 Zambia June/July 2012 with Andrew Baldry - Royal Kafue http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/7971064771 Zambia Sept 2010- Muchinga Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/4211096141 Namibia Sept 2010 - ARUB Safaris http://forums.accuratereloadin...6321043/m/6781076141

Their website says travel to RSA will not incur the fee for your ammo case. When I flew BA to RSA, I was not charged a separate fee for the ammo case. I was just at Heathrow a couple days ago, but not with a firearms. “If you're travelling to/from South Africa, Italy, or from Romania, check in your firearms and ammunition in individual locked cases, separate from any checked bag with your personal belongings. In this instance, you will not be charged an extra baggage fee for the separate ammunition case if you exceed your free baggage allowance.”
