Ethiopia's Capital is now just 12 hours and 25 minutes away from Washington DC

nazret.com - Ethiopian Airlines will start daily non-stop service to Addis Ababa from Washington Dulles beginning today. The flight will be on Ethiopian's newly acquired Boeing 777-200LR.

The flight from Washington Dulles departs at 12:00 noon local time and arrives in Addis Ababa the next morning at 08:25, local time. Total flight time duration is 12 hours and 25 minutes, which slashes overall travel time by 2hrs and 35mins.

The return trip from Addis Ababa to Washington Dulles will continue to make a stop in Rome.

Ethiopian will be the first African carrier to operate the Boeing 777-200LR.

The Boeing 777-200LR is the Long Range version of the wide-body twin-engine jet airliner family, it holds the world record for the longest nonstop flight by a commercial airliner.

Ethiopian airlines has five Boeing 777-200LR in order and has received two aircraft recently. Ethiopian’s 777-200LRs are configured to carry a total of 321 passengers, 34 in Business Class, and 287 in Economy.

Does anyone know what the situation vis-vis firearms is transiting Adis-Abbaba? This looks like it may have potential as a safari route.

Thanks Kathi,

I am thinking more of avoiding Jo-berg and all SA en route to other countries because of the possible hassles in SA. Ethiopian air seems to have a good route net through Africa. What is their reputation as an airline?

Cross L,

We flew Ethiopian Air during October 2009. Nice flight with very friendly staff. The direct route of not stopping in Rome is really great.

One incident occurred when we were leaving Addis Ababa to return home. Before departing the plane developed engine trouble so we were delayed a few hours. The ground crew repaired the engine and we continued with no problems.

Good luck in your travels.
