I just got back today from a three week trip to Africa; one week business in RSA and two weeks hunting in Namibia.

First time I used Afton for meet and greet on my way in, storage of my rifles while on biz in RSA, and lodging going out to WDH.

SAA lost my gear bag. I sent Annelise an email asking for her help since SAA had no idea where my bag was. Xolilie found my bag in the domestic terminal; my tag had fallen off. He got it on the next flight out. Xolile even met me yesterday to help make sure my guns connected without a hitch.

Annelise and the Afton House are simply outstanding. I have used Sky House, Steve's Travel with Guns, etc. but I will use Afton from now on for everything.

Annelise, you are the best!!!

Good to hear about Afton House. I will be staying with them in September.

Losing a gear bag had to be rather stressful. I have heard of hunters losing their rifles for a couple of days. That would really be a buzz kill.

I've stayed there many times in the past as well. My first time staying there goes way back to when Louie was alive and well. Big Grin

Afton House has that old time concern for their clients, and fantastic service in every area.

They even know the best cigar shops to find true Cuban cigars in, and will take you over to shop and back.

Well, my PH lent me a pair of shoes and I hunted in jeans and a t shirt for two days.

Lessons learned:
1. I am elite on Star Alliance, so when I checked my bag to WDH, they put one of those elite tags on it, but I don't think enough of the sticky bag tag was left and it came off.
2. The name tag on the bag was MsAZW, not me, so it didn't dawn on SAA it was my bag.
3. I had a rollerbag with my business clothes but in retrospect I should have put the biz clothes in my gear bag (since I was done with business) and put some hunting clothes and shoes in there.
4. Using a third party like Afton saved my bacon - I am not sure I would have my bag now if it wasn't for them.

Losing the bag was a definite buzz kill but better than losing my guns.

Stayed there in 13 and 14, and it was very good. I will stay with them again.

Afton get's my vote also.
We stayed there in 2015. Mr. "X" met us at the rotunda, escourted us to the shuttle which pulled up to the door upon his radio call and wisked us off to Afton. When we left the next day to continue down to P.E. Mr. "X" met us at the curb and took us right to the ticket counter and made sure our bags (and ourselves) were checked in properly. Couldn't ask for better service.

What would be an appropriate tip for Mr. x?

I can't remember for sure of the amount that I gave Mr. X, either $5 or $10 on the way in. When we came back to the airport I handed him the same amount. He said "you gave me something last night, no need to do this". I gave it to him anyway. I gave the driver the same also.

I tipped Mr. X and the driver (marcus? Marcellus?) a ten spot each. Not sure if it was appropriate or not.
Afton house was excellent. The steak we had was excellent- i would stay there again in a minute, and more importantly so would my wife.
