Asked our friendly local Delta counter folks these tonight and didn't really get a good answer so hope some of you Flt. 200 vets can help:

Ticket says "dinner " served....on a 14.5 hr flight, is this all the food served? how was it?

Delta's website says "an excess baggage fee will apply if checking more than one gun case"...only checking one gun case and one suitcase...so am I gonna get hit with an extra bag fee????

thanks for the help...inquiring minds want to know.

I was on this flight on March 29.

They serve dinner, a snack consisting of a ham and cheese sub, banana, and Twix bar, followed by breakfast before you land.

On the way back you get pretty much the same thing. The lack of ice cream like on KLM is noticeable, but otherwise I had no complaints. If you are starved, there is a bin of peanuts in the galley just behind Econ Comfort.

Can't tell you about the baggage fees; if you are gold or higher you won't pay for two bags. if you are overnighting in joburg make sure they don't check your bags all the way thru or you won't get them.

In 2011 As long as your case one of the two pieces of checked baggage you were allowed there was no "excess baggage fee. However if it is over size they will charge you for that.

The food on the flight was great, both in 2011 and in 2008.

Last summer I checked a suitcase and a gun case and was charged an excess baggage fee both going and coming back, this was the first time that has happened. The meals are like what has all ready been described but hope you have a cast iron stomach, I usually pack some of my own snacks in my carry-on.

Good Hunting,

You will pay for one bag. (one free) unless you are traveling "business class".

I would highly recommend anyone traveling to hunt that they allow at least three hours for connections. I have never had bags fail to show if I allow plenty of time.

This also gives you plenty of time to show your bag receipts and have the gate agent scan them. Coming back from Africa last month my bags were transferred from SAA to Delta; they were not yet on the plane an hour before, so the gate agent tracked them down and got them on.

I traveled the ATL - JNB route on Delta 200/201 last month.
Food was good. Dinner one hour after departure, breakfast one hour before arrival with a snack served in the middle of the flight.

I don't get on a plane hungry, though. At ATL, go to the new Terminal F before the flight, where the good food (Pei-Wei, etc) vendors are get a good meal before you leave.

If you are a Delta club member or flying b class, be sure to stop by the club on F concourse for a shower. They have one person managing that area - supply of razors, shampoo, toothbrushes, etc. Pure luxury after that flight.

The food is typical airline food and the flight is long but worth it. We were assured several times that our bags were checked all the way thru to Jo'burg. We did not have any tight connections, delta just did not put them on the plane. As long as you are not overweight on your checked bag, you should not be charged. I have never had an issue with luggage arriving until this time. Still had a great safari.

Timg. Question.

So how tight was your Atlanta connection ?

I see a recommendation of "at least 3 hours for connections". Would a longer connection than you had have helped?
