This October I will be traveling to Mozambique to hunt buffalo with my 15 year old son. Mom and brother will be staying home on this trip so it will be just the two of us. From my research and talking with the outfitter the only things I seem to need is an affidavit signed by my wife that she has given consent for the travel, as well, an unabridged birth certificate and passport. For those who have travelled with there minor children is their any other information I should know? We will only be transiting through Johannesburg with a 3 hour layover and have all our bags and guns checked through from home to Beira. Thanks.

Have your wife's statement and anything else notarized. Just did a fishing trip to Costa Rica with my 11 year old grandson. Just the two of us. I had his passport and several notarized copies, notarized copies of his birth certificate, and relevant medical insurance documents. Experienced no issues. No one questioned our relationship. Good question, though. I probably should have had a notarized letter from his mother, ( my daughter ), especially since his last name is different than mine. I will certainly have one when we go back next year. I think you are on the right track in your concern over this matter. 114-R10David

Also, keep all originals on you and copies of everything (except a credit card) in each piece of luggage (4457, passport, airline tickets, contacts, etc). Good hunting to you and your son. NOTARIZED affidavit from the wife, for sure! I took my 14 year old daughter hunting in RSA last year. Had to present the affidavit from my wife before getting on EVERY flight. Other than that, you should be fine! Side suggestion; ask your outfitter about cull, ration, or nuisance animals. Ex; Where I hunted in Mozambique (2011), baboons were everywhere and free to shoot. I also took a few animals for a party that the locals were planning. The more shooting your son can do while there, the better!

Thanks Baker458, good to hear things went well on your trip with your daughter. I want to make sure I have all my bases covered and don't have any nasty surprises. The way things are in the world today you can't be too careful. I'm hunting with Zambezi Delta, this is my third trip with them. Other than buffalo and a few plains game we have booked Mark told me my son could shoot some of the community ration of Reedbuck. We'll probably pick up some of the unused quota since we are at the end of the season. Should be plenty of shooting opportunities!
