Two part question: 1) Fiance and I have turned a Buff Safari into a honeymoon. What the best route to get to Lusaka, Zambia/ I know Joberg in a PITA, and would prolly avoid it if possible.

2) Who's the best deal on tix to Lusaka? Kayak? African Travel Agent?

Thanks folks- PHIL

i would consider new york-london/heathrow-lusaka
a two legged journy, that should be manageble for you and the wife to be.

BA flies directly to lusaka several times a week.

best

Phil,

Joyce and I went British Air first class (used miles) for the hunt with Johnny. Flew to Heathrow but on to Jo-berg because of heading to Namibia before Zambia.

In 2012, when we head back to Zambia, we are planning Business Class on BA using miles and will fly to Heathrow but straight to Lusaka from there.

You are going to have a great time with Johnny.

No problem with Heathrow and rifles? If so, thats good news. I don't have any air miles, so whom do you recommend as the best deal?

And, Frostbit, I can't quite describe how pumped I am about this hunt!!

No idea about "deals" but British Air is quite good about keeping track of your "Sporting Arms". They charge a stipend for the honor but they even got me off the plane in Heathrow to verify the Tuffpak as mine.

I have gone to Lusaka several times through Joberg and a couple of times through London.

I prefer going through London because it breaks the flight into two equal 10 hour legs. The only drawback is that is requires(or required) an overnight in London on the return flight.

As far as deals, it is my impression that the best prices with SAA are found using an Africa travel agent such as Gracy. I believe BA gives great prices when purchased direct through their website.

I did just receive an email offer from SAA for a 2 for one price to Joberg, but you have to book soon. Check their website.

Hunting in Africa is an adventure. The number of variables involved preclude the possibility of a perfect hunt. Some problems will arise. How you decide to handle them will determine how much you enjoy your hunt.

Just tell yourself, "it's all part of the adventure." Remember, if Robert Ruark had gotten upset every time problems with Harry
Selby's flat bed truck delayed the safari, Horn of the Hunter would have read like an indictment of Selby. But Ruark rolled with the punches, poured some gin, and enjoyed the adventure.

If you do travel BA, don't forget that they require 72 hours notice that you'll be travelling with firearms, so have your travel agent enter that fact in the comments section of your booking AND have them them print off a hard copy of the booking that you can take with you when you travel.

British Airways always limits free baggage allowance in coach class to just one bag not to exceed 50lbs. Second bag is GBP 32.00 ($ 50.00).

Handling charge
Each case containing firearms is subject to a £50 each way charge at check-in. Firearms are handled by a specialist third party agent on our behalf, this charge covers their costs.

Trust this will assist.
