I thought we got scammed at the Lusaka airport on our return but I just checked the British Air website and they changed their rules a bit. Before they charged you 50 Pounds each way to handle your firearm cases. I considered this a neccesary evil because someone took possesion of my Tuffpak I never had a problem. On the trip in 2010 I had to actually leave the plane onto the tarmac in Heathrow to verify it was my case because the barcode wouldn't scan (thanks to a counter person in Seattle putting a zillion staples through it. Anyway, BA is now also charging 50 pounds for your ammo if the case is separate from your gun case. I didn't have that charge on the way over but did on the way back. They must have started this in late June early July. The one upside is that my checked bag (clothing etc.) that had the ammo got handled separately like the Tuffpak and off loaded first on arrival back in the States. It wasn't on the carasel. So 50 pounds each way for ammo and 50 pounds each way for rifle 200 pounds round trip, so in USD that is about $312. Damn. Definitely worth shooting up all your ammo and not carrying any home if flying BA. Hunting: Exercising dominion over creation at 2800 fps. | |||

Agreed. We had .375, 7 x 57, and 450 NE with us. I wish I would have left all the 375 & 7 x 57 with Andrew (I did leave him a box of each even though my .375 is handloaded) and just brought the 450 NE back. Good luck with trying to get your money refunded if you bought your ticket before the new rules. It didn't work for me !! Just to give everyone a full heads up on this, the BA rules state that if you put your ammo in your checked bag then that bag must be treated as a firearm and hence you get charged £50.00 for the privilege.The upside is that your checked bag goes the security route and should therefore be safer, especially going through Joberg. The other absurd part of the BA rules states that they will allow you to pack your ammo with your rifle in your rifle case and hence you will only have to pay the one £50.00 fee. Who ever thought that transporting a firearm together with its ammunition in the same container must be nuts, but we are talking about British Airways after all !!! The only downside to this "money saving" option is that if you travel via Joberg and SA their rules state that the ammo must be in its seperate container so booking straight through becomes out of the question.. The world of international travel never fails to confound !!! | |||

" Guess I'll try harder next time, maybe even miss a few for you. 7 animals, 9 bullets (I needed one to prove the sightin and a second I flung at the retreating Lion after the first shot through the heart. I left .375 H&H and 7 x 57 (wife's) with the PH. I brought back my 450 NE because Andrew didn't want it and at that point I didn't realize I was going to pay BA for the pleasure of bringing it back.
