Im heading to south Africa in late July to bow hunt with a friend. It has been years since I have been there with a bow, and even then I had a rifle with me. Do I need to do the same paperwork with a bow as with a rifle?

No, you don't have to have an SAP for a bow but they may make you open your bow case to take a look.

A bow is simply classified as large luggage and comes out by the side door instead of on the carousel, as of 8/11, of course it is subject to change, but I doubt it. kld

I was there in August of 2011 for my second trip with a bow. there were no problems at all. The bow case will be delived to the "police" office just like the rifles. They will have you open it up and then you are on your way with no paperwork at all.

There will be NO hassles with a bow. Just to be on the safe side of "bribery and corruption" - contact the PHASA office now and arrange with them. They have people on standby at the airport to assist with all the needs. They know the law and will not be influenced by an over eager official.

I bought a drop bottom duffel from cabelas that my bow would fit in. I packed clothes around it for protection.
It came out on the carousel and no one ever new i even had a bow as i wheeled out of there. I have heard of some personel asking for bribes to get out of the police office.

I have walked in the foot prints of the elephant, listened to lion roar and met the buffalo on his turf. I shall never be the same.
