Hello, I'm flying to tanz. thru amsterdam.
I booked my ticket thru gracy's with northwest.

I would like to pack my ammo into my tuffcase and not take a checked bag. On the NWA special luggage firearms page it clearly states that ammo is fine to be packed in the guncase.

I was thinking about it today and thought that I better check the KLM page as well because they will be operating the flight from amsterdam to Dar.
On their special luggage fireams page it states that "Sports and hunting rifles must be transported separately from the ammunition"

Has anyone travelled thru amsterdam with guns and ammo in one case?

I know the common sense answer is to take a seperate little case and check it with my ammo but I would really like to avoid that. It kind of defeats the pupose of a tuffcase as well as doubles my chances of not having guns and ammo both come off the plane. My guns won't be much good if that little case gets lost somewhere between ontario and dar Confused

I'm just wondering if NWA's rules will apply or KLM's will apply.

I'm only worried about it on the way over, On the way back there won't be any ammo left.

This has been covered in here many times, TSA (US, am not sure what Canadian rules might be) rules are DOMESTIC, the IATA requires that ammo be packed separately from your firearms on all international flights that I am aware of. The American carriers seem to use domestic rules for their flights originating in the US, but if you change planes or carriers then you would be subject to that carriers interpretation of IATA rules. Again, as far as I know, they ALL require separate firearms and ammo.

Many people have made trips to Africa with both in one case, especially when the case is booked through to its final destination in the US, but with the more strict inspections in force today, I wouldn't consider it myself.

BTW you need to be sure you comply with all of KLMs rules regarding transporting firearms. This may or may not include prior notification (since I haven't flown thru Amsterdam or on KLM with firearms I am not sure of what these rules might be).

When considering US based operations of guides/outfitters, check and see if they are NRA members. If not, why support someone who doesn't support us? Consider spending your money elsewhere.

NEVER, EVER book a hunt with BLAIR WORLDWIDE HUNTING or JEFF BLAIR.

I have come to understand that in hunting, the goal is not the goal but the process.

And, on the 31st, with copies of the Dutch Consent Form inside my gun case and inside the box containing my ammunition, as well as a third copy with my other travel documents.

Good luck Mike.
