Arrived off LH yesterday into Tamb at 09.30. My two gun cases were at SAPs office before me. We did all the paperwork ourselves in advance. Permits in hand fifteen minutes later and we were on our way! Being doing it ourselves 10 years plus now and never been so easy!

And now off we go hunting !!

How does one do the paperwork in advance without the services of a permit company??

The outfitter can email them to you. Plus most can be downloaded from the web.

Even when paying for the service it is wise to fill them out before hand.

Labman,

1/ application form off SAPs site or PH
2/ copy of passport
3/ copy of invite letter(s)
4/ copy of flight details ie return/exit flight
5/ in our case German gun licenses
6/ German customs papers ( your USA equiv )

Handed it all in at desk on arrival.

Darin, We have two weeks starting with 3 days fly fishing near Dullstroom, then pointed greywing and duck in the Free State, then bushpig over hounds down in Zululand and finish up on a plains game bag on the Swazi border. Self drive in the Landy! Cheers

That's great. I'm in the emirates lounge in Dubai. Hope it goes good in about 9 hours.

OK - I've done all that myself in the past. I misread your post and thought you had a pre approved permit waiting for you upon arrival. The problem with SAPS in Joberg is you never know when someone decides to change the rules or is just looking for a bribe and decides to hassle you. It happened to me and a friend on our last trip to RSA.

Tom,

That's exactly why I recommend my clients use a service at O.R. Tembo. Pay a few dollars and let them worry about changes etc.

Mark, I agree with you for anyone coming out here first or second time. Pay for the permit service and easy. Just saying having been coming out for over 10 years you get to know the faces at SAPs and vice versa and as I said in and out in 15 mins. And btw we have never left anything behind at SAPs other than a round of coffees one morning !
