Pelican 1200 TSA Lock
I've read most every thread here on the forum, going back over 2 years and could not find the answer to this one. I had a pelican 1200 case already so it was an easy choice for me to use as an ammo case, which will be locked in my locked, checked luggage. It seems though that the 1200 case requires a lock with a long shackle/shank because of the thick area where the lock will go. The few TSA locks I've seen seem to be too small, hence the question.....can anybody give a specific model TSA lock they are using for a 1200 please? Thanks again for the help.

I'm using the combination type with a real short cable for my zippered luggage and my ammo box

Got mine from HD

Johnny,

The TSA cable locks that Ted mentioned are what I'm using and have been very happy with them.

Thanks. It looks that would also work on a Pelican 1750.

I think you should not use TSA locks on your rifle case.

Opinion here seems to be that would violate the "Locked rifle case owner with the only key" requirement?

On your ammo case I got long shank TSA locks at Target which worked well.
Do not use TSA locks on the rifle case.

I used these on my SA plains game safari. They have a long enough shackle for use on both a 1200 and 1750 case. They're also about 3 times as robust as the crap TSA locks sold for suitcases.

Search "Safe Skies 4 dial TSA lock" and you'll come up with a number of retailers besides Amazon. I bought several at Cabela's for around $13 a lock and they have proven extremely tough.

This is the lock I use for TSA compliance. It has a 1/4" shackle, making it nearly as strong as the locks for my gun case:

I use Pelican case for ammo as well. But, who says you have to use a TSA lock on your ammo case? I have never used one and never had a problem. Of course, that doesn't mean I am right. Just my experience, that's all.

I personally would rather use a master lock, but not so sure that's the way to go? I will put a master lock on there if they make me ship it separately from JBurg to WH though, or at least I intend to.

I have two master locks on mine, one on each side of the Pelican Storm case. No issues so far.

Only once have I had them require that I check the ammo box separately, that was coming from Romania. It was a country law, not an airline rule. And it did make it all the way back to DFW on time.

I know there are certain circumstances going through SA where this is the case.
