need advice on a Mannlicher Pics added
I'm making a mannlicher stocked '98 Mauser in .30-06. It's fiddleback walnut the entire length.

I have both Leupold compacts in 3-9 and 2-7 power but are either of these appropriate for this style of gun?

What scope would you recommend?

actually I was thinking geometry of the scope more so than power.....

I have a real long K-6 steel scope too but am not sure if there is a traditional scope style for a mannlicher. Maybe one without an objective bell?

I was thinking geometry as well. I think a mannlicher looks best with a trim scope. If the 2-7 & 3-9 are the same size then really no difference. Only thing I don't care for on the no object bells scopes is they are usually fairly short.

Vapodog, I hope you know I was just pulling your leg...
Nice rifle you have there, good job. I understand what your saying, because to me and its just my opinion, they look great without a scope. With eyesight like mine, Id want a scope on it too. I have seen scoped Mannlichers, that did look good, but I'll be damned if I ever saved the pictures!(sorry). I'd thought someone would have something by now, and would like to see them also...

Enjoy!!!

I agree with srtrax. I'm not crazy about popping a scope on such a slick looking rifle. If anything, a scope that matches the bluing closely would be my first selection.

I think it would look nice with a G&H sidemount or a Jaeger. Maybe a Hensoldt Diayltan or an older Kahles. I know leupolds are great, but their finish rarely matches the bluing of a nice rifle.

At one time I was the largest collector of Sako rifles in the world. My collection was based on the Mannlicher stocked rifle. The small action Sako is the one most folks went crazy about but I will say that I think the Rem. Mod. 7 is one of the best looking Mannlicher stocked rifles I have ever seen. That is just my 2 cents.
The 2.5 - 8 power scopes look nice and for a straight tube you always have the 1.5 to 5 stuff.

that is some pretty wood that you have on that rifle!

I have Leupold 2-7x33s on 3 different Interarms Mark Xs with mannlicher stocks; 7x57, 7x57, and 9.3x62. If you need the scope to sit back beyond the rear of the bolt, you might need to use extension rings. The Leupolds on my Mark Xs all have the heavy duplex reticle. Mounted low, they are easy to see and are pretty much point and shoot for me.

Dang Vapo, nice rifle. I would put the Leupold 2x7 on it. Is that the new "barn"? It doesn't even have any dirt in it yet.

The one I purchased from Brownells didn't time right so I emailed Gentry and they asked me to mail it to them and asked what action it was to fit.

I sent it to them and told them it was to fit an Interarms '98 and in a flash I had a new one with a trial installation on one of their Interarms....it fit mine like a glove!

Can't beat that!

The Mannlicher is far from done.....I'll post a few more when it's done....It need a lot of attention to checkering and stock finish yet

As to the barn.....here's a few photos of the "barn"

Still a lot of organizing but it's coming along.....a lot of work in it already!

It's high density polyurethane spray insulation.

Dern good stuff as it seals and strengthens the building as well as insulates!
