I bought the Interarms Mark X barreled action in a B & C stock from someone here on the AR classifieds....It was originally .30-06 and has not been changed.

I sold the B & C stock and cut off the barrel to 19" and reused the Williams sight by reinstalling it.

I added a Gentry three position safety.....made my own front sling swivel and hand carved the schnauble forend tip.

I got the American Black fiddleback walnut wood from Dennis Olson in Plains MT who also did the blank routing for me.

Checkering was done by Carol at Ahlman's in southern Minnesota

Rear swivel base (not shown) is Dakota from Brownells. Accelerator pad installed by me as well.

Very nice, I like it. Any pics of the blind mag area. Who's tg is that and is the escutcheon homemade ?
Thanks,
Bob

Both the trigger guard and escutcheon are made from original milsurp '98 Mauser bottom metal.

The trigger guard has only one bolt hole in it.....

I'll see if I can post more photos of the blind bottom.

Well.....a bit of crow to eat.....see the screw up....I chipped the wood and need to extend the trigger guard to fix it and just haven't yet.

Vapo, How long was the stock blank you used on this rifle? I have a big blank I maybe could use for a similar project. Just wondering if it would work. DW
05 May 2010, 05:29

The blank was 40" long and the barrel is 19"

Take it from there.

That is very nice Vapo! I've been wanting to try my hand at making a custom stock. Kinda like the young bull vs old bull saying. I still like to run a little. I may have the patience, we'll see.

Nice looking rig, but it ain't a Mannlicher. It's a mannlicher style stock but a mauser action.

I've got a Model 1903 Mannlicher Schoenauer in 6.5x54MS. Mannlichers alway have the butter knife bolt handle and the action is farther forward. The full stock is the mannlicher style, but there is no way that you could call that rifle by the Mannlicher brand.

I know it's nitpicking and I don't want to detract from the rifle, but the heading is misleading.

Nice rifle and it just ticked my "gotta build a mannlicher" clock forward a bit. A couple of questions. What is the muzzle diameter? What does it weigh as shown? And last, what did you do regarding the mag box as I am considering a blind mag as well.

Muzzle diameter is .620, weight is 7 3/4 pounds but that now includes bases, rings and a Leupold 2-7 X 32 ultralite, and the magazine box is an original bottom metal from a VZ-24 with the box cut away from the rest of the metal. The front action screw bushing is also cut from that same metal as is the trigger guard.

Dennis Olson in Plains Montana routed the blinf=d magazine stock for me.

You are absolutely correct.....it's not a Mannlicher.....it seems that the term "Mannlicher" is been shifted to mean any rifle with a full length stock....but you are absolutely correct.

In Fact it's a Mark X barreled action in .30-06 with the barrel bobbed to 19"

Personal taste only.....I just don't care for ebony on a full length stock so I used contrasting (to a degree) walnut.

I sent a blank to Dennis and he emailed me to say that my blank wasn't long enough..... homer

I asked if he had a blank to swap and he agreed to a swap and I trusted him sight unseen....I think I got a very nice deal....he treated me well!

That is a very nice rifle and much like a project I have in mind for one of the Brno 21 actions I have put away for projects. I have a pristine Mannlicher-Schoenauer carbine in .30-06 and it shoots "lights out" with 180 NPs at 2725 fps-mv, what else do you really need for North American hunting?

I am thinking of a 21" tube, the "Stutzen" stock and just need to decide on a chambering, not an .06, as I have five rifles so chambered already. I have always liked the style and this is a very practical type of rifle for backpack hunting, which I prefer to all other styles.

Damn good work and keep it up!
