You probably haven't seen many Satterlee actioned customs. This 450 Rigby will be pointing at elephants in about 2 months. I've thrown in a close-up of the inletting of the trigger...a little more complicated for the stockmaker, but sure is a sweet trigger indeed. The rear sight treatment (shown in the rough) would have been a piece of cake for a real engraving person, but gave me some headaches.

The depth of the action is generous, but doesn't seem out of place on this rifle. All in all, I'd call Stuart Satterlee's action a "home run".

What is different about the trigger? It looks like a Model 70 on the web site. Could you explain the trigger design?

It is similar to a Mod 70 engineered to fit the Satterlee Mauser clone. That is what it looked like on my Satterlee.

All Satterlee actions from early 2008 forward have the M-70 concept trigger.

It's easy to make.
It's very reliable
breaks cleanly at 3 to 4 Lbs.
It's easily adjusted for overtravel.

Function Report.....to date I have shot about 60 rounds through it.

The gun is very accurate with several different 500 grain bullets....CEB Solid, Northfork Solid, Northfork Cup Point Solid and Northfork Soft.

It feeds all of the above in any order.

The iron sights are very useable. The front bead was filed flat and shows up well.

The stand up fixed sight shoots to the POA at 50 yds and is still pretty much at zero at 100 yds.

The flip up rear sight is exactly 6" high at 100 yds, which should put it at Zero for 200 yds.....I haven't actually shot the irons at 200 yds to confirm (based on ballistic tables), but will.

I have had the scope on and off several times. The scope returns to zero. It is very quick to remove (grasp scope with right hand, push rear release button in with right thumb and rotate scope up and off)....one handed operation and I don't have to look at the rifle to do it.

The trigger is excellent.....it breaks clean with no creep......don't know the trigger pull weight, but I would not change it.

The lock-up time on the Satterlee action firing pin is very fast......I have a 416 Rigby on a GMA action and there seems like there is a big difference in the spring strength between the two actions.

I have shot the iron sights with the hood on and off....I prefer to take the hood off. Will leave the hood on for travel only (protect the front sight).

The gun balances well and the sights line up for me when I mount the gun.

Recoil.....yeah it is there, but I have shot it enough that it doesn't bother me....I'm not thinking about it.

Sounds like bringing home a supermodel for her looks and finding out she makes a mean 8 layer lasagna and rakes the leaves while it's baking.

Wouldn't expect anything less from Master Wiebe.

Well...we did a fairly comprehensive series on the Searcy Memorial project here on AR a couple years ago.

ACGG participation?...hmmmmm....

Look up the thread..

Well I refreshed my memory regarding the Searcy rifle & ACGG. All I can say is that I do not understand it....

I still think that these very talented members taking some time to make videos outlining their individual skills, the gunsmithing trade & the ACGG as a group would be a huge step in a positive direction.

Duane, I'd love to see a video of how you finish a stock to go along with the steps outlined on your website.

Lastly.........what is the muzzle diameter on this rifle? I am thinking the barrel band is NECG...correct??

Awesome rifle!

My heart is heavy as I post/write this.....while I was in Africa my wife became ill. I flew home early and we put her in the hospital. She has had three operations and is still in the hospital......we will be starting chemotherapy soon. All prayers for her recovery would be appreciated.......she knows God and God knows her.

I did manage to take two tuskless before coming home. Here are a couple photo's and I will try and post more as things return to normal.

Mike,
I am shocked and saddened to hear of your wife's illness. Please know she is in our family's thought and prayers and we wish her a quick and complete recovery!

On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch...
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
- Rudyard Kipling

Life grows grim without senseless indulgence.

We all can make mistakes, when comes the part where she becomes lazy and puts on 100lbs? Mine did!
