416 Conversion - Rigby to Weatherby?

Hi all, I've got a CZ 550 Safari in 416 Rigby but have bought a lifetime's supply of 416 Weatherby Ammunition and as such was considering converting my old Rigby to Weatherby.

Has anyone here any first-hand experience of such a conversion and if so, what advice would you offer?

Many thanks in anticipation

A 416Wby reamer should clean up the Riby chamber. Major issue is the Rigby head is .5902" and the Wby is .579". I have no clue if it would work in the CZ with that much slop or not.

As usual just my $.02

Hi Paul, that's invaluable, thank you, I didn't appreciate there was such a variation.

OK, so that now means a new barrel too - not sure it's worth the hassle although I've so much ammunition now for it....

I'll sleep on it over Easter.

Many thanks

Sell the Weatherby ammo and use the funds to by a press and the components to load the Rigby then handload for about 1/4th the price of factory ammo. Problem solved.

Hi Mac, naw - anyone could do that, besides, I've already got all the reloading dies for 416, this was to be a new project and a bit of fun since I bought so much of the stuff , probably a lifetimes supply the way most of us shoot 416 and above.....

reat idea though - I'm still not decided either way so will hold fire until I'm 100% sure it's the thing to do, money not growing on trees and all that!

Best regards

Hi Roo,

jeffeoso is one of our most informed posters on
AR; and in this thread:
http://forums.accuratereloadin...4711043/m/8951047451
he indicates that the 416 Rigby Rim is so slightly
larger than the 550/460 Magnum rim that it is a
non-issue. I do believe that the Wby 378, 416, 460,
500 A2, 550 Magnum are all the same rim and
basic brass.

OH GOD! {Seriously, we need the help.}
