Spaulted wood looks great but the spalting is caused by a fungus that is devouring and softening the wood. People go to great lengths to kill the fungus and to harden the softened, punky places in the wood. Their success is varied.

There are two very large pieces of wood with excellent grain/figured and unspalted all at ten feet long and 24 inches wide and 2 1/2" thick to cut stocks from.

I have to make a trip to the north country to get them.....if you are seriously interested send me a PM.....I'm thinking maybe $200 per blank....they can be cut any size needed.

I have to work up a better definition of "Pattern Blanks" As in CHEAP UGLY SAP WOOD etc. rotflmo

I've got that pattern blank need covered. Plus committed to several nicer blanks that are leaving me blank poor.

Since the step son thought his walnut blank was too dark I asked him if he wanted to go Maple. Darn kids now he likes dark. Roll Eyes

As usual just my $.02

There will be no stain on this wood. The natural color is fine as is!

Yeah I'm curious if the spalting presented any issues otherwise in that stock.

When I duplicate wild Maple. I cut it in 2 steps. Rough cut it remove it from the duplicator and let is set for 2-4 weeks. Then make the final cut. Might be a waste but that is what I do.

actually that seems to be a good thing to do.....

I have inlayed inside of the barrel channel and into the butt stock and again inside the pistol grip, strips and dowels of oak thoroughly and heavily epoxied.

I'm just a tad concerned about the strength even for a .25-06....the oak is not visible anywhere but can't hurt the overall strength of the stock.
