is that stock hand carved, or made from a semi inletted blank? The pattern is very nice. Nice long open pistol grip. But everybody is going to know you are in the woods!

I would think there's an unfilled need for a laminate of tradional stock wood..such as cherry, walnut , maple

one can get no finer compliment than from a master such as Duane.....I thank you!

None of the deer I've taken have complained about light colored wood .After all the only thing they see is the business end .

That stock reminds me of the good old days. Some of us had to make all styles and types of stocks to eat in the 1960's-70's.

The stock is well designed and a perfect shape for the skip-line checkering. GO MAPLE!!!!

It's time to bring back maple and the western styles. I use water stain to bring out more contrast for the grain. Don't use too much stain or it will start to look more like walnut. Just my 2cts worth

Love that rifle! I've always been a sucker for maple.
This is one I made my Dad right after I graduated. I figured he need ONE good-looking rifle. Now that he's gone, I have it as one of my go-to rifles. Chambered in 25-06 - it's a tack-driver.

I also like Maple. Your stock has a great shape and nice details, (widows Peak on the forearm tip), and the color is right. Thanks for sharing

When I was in Gunsmith school at TSJC the instructors there invented and produced an inexpensive laminated blank. They took a piece of plain walnut the thickness of the width of the front tang on a 98 Mauser bottom metal. To this center piece they then glued 3/8" pieces of maple, followed by walnut followed by maple till they had a blank. They were sold in the bookshop for a reasonable price and heavily used. The maple and walnut came from ML FOSS lumber in Denver and they were glued together with 'Fossco' which was their wood glue which I think was actually Elmers glue. Smelled and tasted the same. They put glued pieces on the roof of the gunshop and let them weather thru the winter and had no seperations. Actually made into very attractive stocks. Very plain pieces of walnut and maple were used though I saw a few of fancy Birdseye and Curley Maple. I built a couple myself and liked them though they were a little harder to inlet and scrape the barrel channel. I was into carving at the time (I never learned to checker) and usually put an oakleaf and acorn pattern Louis MRace taught me to do. The Maple took it beautifully.
