I have a pre 64 Winchester Model 70 standard weight I would like to have stocked with a Mc Millan stock. Can anyone suggest a competent gunsmith who will stock my barreled action in a timely fashion. I would like to have this for my nephew's birthday in June. Any suggestions appreciated. I just don't have the time, space or talent to do it myself. Thanks!

You might call McMillan and see if they can do it do it for you and how soon. Matt FISH!! Last I checked McMillan was out about 5-6 months on stocks, so better get one on order pretty quick if you want it by June. Hopefully lead times have improved a little bit. "Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading".

I wouldn't be on any delivery of less than eight months. I have one on order since last April. Jim Kobe 10841 Oxborough Ave So Bloomington MN 55437 952.884.6031 Professional member American Custom Gunmakers Guild

You may check with D'Arcy and see whether he had any Legend stocks in-stock.

I'm curious, what is involved with fitting a McMillen stock to a barreled action?

A dremel took or sharp chisel, plenty of liquid steel or epoxy, tape and release agent. And a little knowledge of what you need to do and how to do it helps Anyone who claims the 30-06 is ineffective has either not tried one, or is unwittingly commenting on their own marksmanship Phil Shoemaker Alaska Master guide FAA Master pilot NRA Benefactor www.grizzlyskinsofalaska.com

FWIW, the Micky EDGE stock I put my Pre-64 300 H&H in was a straight drop in. No mods required. I did not bed the rifle and the rifle shot 3/4 MOA. I'd buy a Micky again, no question. Regards, Robert ****************************** H4350! It stays crunchy in milk longer!

McMillan lists one pre-64 stock in inventory now. That's how I bought the one McMillan stock I have, but it did require some work to fit the action. https://www.mcmillanusa.com/pr...tock-actions/pre-64/ ------------------------------- Some Pictures from Namibia Some Pictures from Zimbabwe An Elephant Story

My problem with the "stock" McMillan is LOP. My nephew is tall and needs 14+ inch LOP. I looked at the one in inventory but it is 13.5 inches.

As far a shooting goes, too short LOP is a lot easier to handle and deal with than too long.
