LJSGunsmith Wanted to Stock a Rifle
I have a pre 64 Winchester Model 70 standard weight I would like to have stocked with a Mc Millan stock. Can anyone suggest a competent gunsmith who will stock my barreled action in a timely fashion. I would like to have this for my nephew's birthday in June. Any suggestions appreciated. I just don't have the time, space or talent to do it myself. Thanks!

clowdisLast I checked McMillan was out about 5-6 months on stocks, so better get one on order pretty quick if you want it by June. Hopefully lead times have improved a little bit.

Jim KobeI wouldn't be on any delivery of less than eight months. I have one on order since last April.

WoodhitsYou may check with D'Arcy and see whether he had any Legend stocks in-stock.

montea6bI'm curious, what is involved with fitting a McMillen stock to a barreled action?

A dremel took or sharp chisel, plenty of liquid steel or epoxy, tape and release agent.
And a little knowledge of what you need to do and how to do it helps

rnoviFWIW, the Micky EDGE stock I put my Pre-64 300 H&H in was a straight drop in. No mods required. I did not bed the rifle and the rifle shot 3/4 MOA.
I'd buy a Micky again, no question.

Charles_HelmMcMillan lists one pre-64 stock in inventory now. That's how I bought the one McMillan stock I have, but it did require some work to fit the action.

LJSMy problem with the "stock" McMillan is LOP. My nephew is tall and needs 14+ inch LOP. I looked at the one in inventory but it is 13.5 inches.

458WinAs far a shooting goes, too short LOP is a lot easier to handle and deal with than too long.
