UPDATE FIELD TEST - Custom built FN in 458 Win Mag

458 Win Mag is my second most favorite caliber. (only surpassed by my 416 caliber rifles) This my 7th rifle in 458 Win Mag. I'm still trying to research the maker. If anyone has a suggestion, please reply. The action is properly glass bedded with double cross-bolts in the stock. The barrel has a full length Rib with an unusual rear sight - that is very functional. The action is drilled and tapped so I may add a scope in the future. The name John Howell that is stamped in stock was the owner. He was a big time Collector and many of his guns and collectables sold at an estate auction in 2022. This rifle was not in that auction. I will continue researching, and will try to remove the ugly muzzle brake. Field test to follow.

UPDATE ****

We had a remarkable warm day today - 62 degrees. That's about 30 degrees above normal. So off to the range to test this little cannon. I fired 2 loads - a 350g fun load, and a 500g hunting load. I was able to remove the muzzle brake and I tested the 500g load with-and-without the brake. The recoil was very manageable and quit frankly there wasn't much difference in felt recoil with-and-without the brake. (sights will be adjusted before the next outing)

as always, your comments are most welcome

I'm glad for the explanation. I'm 73 and thought I was going senile for not understanding. Whistling
