JcchartboyI unfortunately don't have a pic of the blank. However I can tell you this was hand selected by Keith Stegall from his large stock pile of Tessier's French Walnut for this .280 RCBS he built.

Heres a stick I bought a few months back when I got to a new pile of Turkish wood before the masses. Contrast?
Oh yes....

TC1Amazing rifles so far! Now it's time for some DIY stuff

I bought this blank from Adam years ago out of his "seconds" pile. The action is one of Italian mausers that Leagacy sports use to sell. When they closed them out I got a great deal on it. The barrel came from the land of Ebay back when you could still buy gun parts there.

Von GruffI am continually amazed at the stunning beauty that comes from the humble walnut tree.
Every time I think I have seen what must assuradly be the most specracular piece of stock wood, another is shown somewhere that seems to make superlatives insignificent.
Thanks for the drooling enjoyment.

Agreed.
I've laminated some stock blanks with nice walnut and this one tops them. The blank became a benchrest stock for a Falcon .22. This is one of the boards.
It turned out nice (Jim Peightal's handiwork):
Another nice Claro soon-to-be laminate with carbon fiber... a big blank.

Nope, 24". Just looks long cause it's got a reasonably short fore-end. Oh, & that group didn't come from a varmint weight tube either. It's a Lilja #1 contour; the lightest contour they make!
Here's another pic of it prior to being blued.

GSSPWish I had some pics of the blank before it got cut on.
Different light.
Again, different light.

FMCIt's pretty beat up- worn blueing, dings and dents, but it's a shooter. Second month production (Ser.# 10x) Mod 70. No blanks pics. came from Dressels back in the 90's.

1st: Is that first one you posted a Mexican Mauser?
2nd: Is that an old German/Belgium barrel on the next rifle added to the Legacy?
3rd: Don't even get me started on the wood!
This was $250 from Brian Kerr NZ Walnut:
That's my best deal on wood ever!

TC1Here is a nice piece of turkish that made a beautiful stock. The seller used a stained finish on the blank though.

domitterry, how miny lpi is the checkering on this last one? looks like i am going to have to make my own pattern for my build and the wood is really good and can take fine checkering. i am thinking about doing 26 or 28 lpi but could go 30 or 32. any thoughts? thanks in advance. D O M I T !

What caliber?

FMC.270 Win.
Bottom left is a Coues deer. Other 2 deer are mule deer all shot in Sonora ol' Mexico.

TC1Domit, keep your checkering simple. 26LPI will be nice. Checkering only complements an already good stock. IMO, super fancy checkering takes away from a stocks over all good looks.
