Bottom metal and safety for 03A3

I am looking for parts for a custom build on a Remington 1903A3.

I know Sunny Hill made bottom metal in the past, but they have not responded yet to email or phone calls. Are there any other options, or does anyone know where I could find a Sunny Hill (or know if they are still making them)?

Lapour is not going to have Safeties available until late February. Again, does anyone know of any alternatives, or know if someone has a Lapour available for sale?

Thanks for your help.

For a safety, if you can live with a two position, have dpcd install a Wisner on your bolt shroud. I believe that Duane Wiebe's Mauser bottom metal could be made to work with a little modification. Give him a a call and ask.

If you can find a POST 1964 Winchester M70 sleeve assembly, then it will screw right onto the 1903 bolt, and even time correctly.

Then comes the fun part of fitting the old striker to the new safety ( not for the faint of heart )

The last Pot 64 sleeve assembly I picked up cost me about $ 75

Just another option.

Would it be possible to use the Model 70 striker? After all, there was such a thing as a headless striker available for the Springfield.

In a big nut shell, simply NO.
The vertical distance between the 1903 and the M70 will not allow it, PLUS the cocking cam and sear face is totally wrong between them.

You have two choices, either redo the 1903 unit, or make an complete new one.

I have phoned Sunnyhill a couple of times in the last year. They have always picked up and spoken with me.

Try phoning instead of e-mail.

I talked to Duane and he made the necessary mods for a reasonable charge and in a very reasonable turnaround. What a pleasure to deal with. I got the bottom metal in the mail this weekend.

Jim said it, heck, he might have been the first to tell me -- post 64 m70 fits -- needs to be fitted to work

mauser bottom metal will work, will need work on the rear screw to match the springfield angle -- can do it with a countersink and some patience

To fit more properly, the rear of the trigger guard needs to be bent downward about 3/16". This will follow the 03 profile pretty closely and now the rear guard screw ends up at the proper angle.

Without the above bend, the grip would look and feel pretty strange
