It's sad to see such beautiful work degraded by tacking on an ugly scope.

I mean that any scope on this gun will detract from its beauty.

Yea ... I can see validity in that statement. It would certainly be nicer sans scope if in a big bore caliber but would be hard to justify with irons only in the 300 H&H I suppose. But, I get your point now!

I don't know where I was when this thread was started but this is a truly exceptional rifle. I love everything about it. The 300 H&H is one of my favorite cartridges. I'd like to know how it shoots now that you've had some time to play with it. I've seen a bunch of nice custom rifles over the years and this one is about as good as it gets. Congrats to all involved. ______________________________ "Truth is the daughter of time." Francis Bacon

I couldn't agree more. I have hunted for decades with a .300 H&H, using a fixed power 4X scope. Putting a German monstosity on top of a beautifully proportioned and magnificently executed design like this one is like hitching a travel trailer to a Ferrari. It is totally unnecessary and detracts from the overall impression of a fine rifle. A scope should compliment a rifle, not detract from it.

This gun truly is special, the discussion thread should be pinned. I love Ruger #1s, probably the best I have ever seen. NRA Life Member, Band of Bubbas Charter Member, PGCA, DRSS. Shoot & hunt with vintage classics.

I also missed this thread the forst time around. I always found the stainless Ruger No. 1 actions unattractive until I saw this one. This one has changed my mind. The whole thing just works so well aesthetically for me. Congratulations! One morning I shot an elephant in my pajamas. How he got into my pajamas I'll never know. - Groucho Marx

Wow, what a magnificent rifle. Well done and congratulations to the owner and to the artists who performed the work.
